Actress Kim Sung-eun revealed her second-grade daughter's monthly education expenses.
On the 26th, she appeared as the MC and first guest on tvN Story's new entertainment show "Ilta Mom" to share her concerns about educational costs.
That day, Kim Sung-eun said, "I am serious about education. I have sent all three of my children to English kindergarten. My biggest concern is my second-grade child Yoon-ha. She entered elementary school last year, so I thought she should study anyway, and I am making her do so."
She noted that the total number of educational institutions she attends in a week exceeds 10. Kim Sung-eun said, "When I calculated, the education expenses exceeded 3 million won a month. I am sending her to a private elementary school, which costs about 1 million won a month. So with an additional 2 million won for private education expenses, it adds up to about 3 million won in total."
Kim Sung-eun said, "I thought I wasn't making her go to many classes, but the number is close to 10. Even when I try to cut back, I find there is nothing to reduce."
Kim Sung-eun also shared her worries when meeting with her peers from the nursing center. She said, "Realistically, should I reduce the number of classes? Right now, she is taking math, English, 2 study guides, piano, violin, soccer, and art lessons," and confessed, "Since the private education expenses are too high, there are times I suddenly feel a sense of disillusionment."
In response, a friend said, "I sometimes tell my child, 'My retirement depends on you,'" and Kim Sung-eun added, "I also say this. Mothers who invest a lot in education often think, 'I should have saved that education cost and just bought a building instead.' At least that would have some return." This remark drew laughter.
