Seo Jang-hoon and Lee Sugeun offered heartfelt advice on marriage.
On the broadcast of KBS Joy's 'Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller' episode 321 aired on the 23rd, a story was shared about a man who wishes to marry but is troubled by practical issues.
The 34-year-old man expressed that his views on marriage clash with societal expectations in Korea, leading to his confusion. He introduced himself as having worked as a navigator in Korea, then went to Australia to study law, and is currently living diligently as a foreign lawyer. He continued, "When I was in Australia, love was all that mattered. Rather than considering the partner's conditions, it became more about how much I liked the person. It seems a bit different in Korea." In response, Seo Jang-hoon noted that regardless of the country, the original feelings are important, but practical issues often come into play.
When Lee Sugeun asked the reason for the man's transition from navigator to lawyer, he explained, "As a navigator, you become isolated from the world. Once you board a ship, it's for six months," adding that he thought it would be hard to marry if he continued as a navigator. After resigning, he went to Australia to study English and then progressed to law school.
In response to Seo Jang-hoon's question, "When did you go to Australia?" the man replied, "I went in 2018 and came back in 2023." Then Seo Jang-hoon joked, "Why do you talk like an Australian then? Didn't you meet someone with a similar view on marriage during your five years in Australia?" The man replied, "I couldn't speak English well, and it was financially tough. I focused on my studies and work."
When Seo Jang-hoon asked, "Are you financially stable now?" the man stated he initially went to Australia with 100 million won and spent about 300 million won there, explaining that he worked hard to pay it back and recently repaid all the money borrowed from his parents. Seo Jang-hoon responded, "You want to get married, but you have no savings, and women keep asking for conditions, which must be frustrating. However, isn't it unavoidable? For instance, if you want to marry generally, you have to consider various conditions, including financial capability. Love doesn't feed you."
Later, when Seo Jang-hoon inquired about his salary and whether he had family to support, the man answered he earns about 80 million won and has no family to support. Seo Jang-hoon then advised, "When you meet someone in the future, tell them, 'Look at my future, not my present.' Even though I couldn't save anything during this time, I can save well from now on.' You should actually live like that too."
