The girl group aespa (affiliated with SME) is returning with a more evolved taste of 'metal.'
The new song 'Dirty Work' will be released on the 27th at 1 p.m. and is a full-fledged hip-hop dance track that showcases aespa's chill and cool charm. Previously, some of the audio was pre-released through a performance video, generating responses among fans such as 'a taste of a furnace,' 'a sound that melts metal,' and 'blacksmith aespa.'
Since their debut in 2020, aespa has delivered a strong impact with 'Black Mamba,' followed by the hip-hop dance track 'Next Level,' which features a variety of musical developments, and the trap genre 'Savage,' achieving successive hits and building a unique musical identity with 'metal taste.'
The reason aespa's 'metal taste' is particularly special is that it maintains a unique sound texture that can be recognized as an 'aespa song' from the very first line while also trying various variations to enhance the listening experience. The first regular album's title track 'Supernova,' which caused a phenomenon last year, along with 'Armageddon' and mini-album 'Whiplash,' successfully showcased 'the most aespa-like yet unseen aespa.'
For example, 'Supernova,' which KENZIE participated in writing and composing, features catchy top lines and synth melodies that incorporate a worldview of 'multiverse,' showcasing visuals with keywords such as futuristic and mischievous quirky girl, and displaying diverse outfits like fangs, fairy ears, odd eyes, and gips, earning the nickname 'metal-ly moon.' Following that, the track 'Armageddon,' noted as the most aespa-like song, is an old-school yet trendy hip-hop dance song, described as 'earth taste' surpassing 'metal taste' and broadening the genre's spectrum.
The upcoming new song 'Dirty Work' also signals the expansion of aespa's 'metal taste' musical world. A&R personnel from ONE Production noted, 'aespa's musical direction focuses greatly on differentiation from other teams, emphasizing individuality and experimental, new sounds. The lyrics, too, tell a story that is free and has autonomy, not confined to a mold.' They added, 'It would be nice if this activity for 'Dirty Work' creates another keyword, as the public has positively defined 'aespa's music = metal taste,' increasing expectations for the comeback.'
aespa will release the single 'Dirty Work' on the 27th at 1 p.m. through various music platforms. This single includes the title track of the same name, a featuring version with Flo Milli, an English version, and an instrumental, totaling four tracks for a diverse listening experience.
