Singer Sung Si-kyung has faced unexpected harsh criticism and malicious comments regarding his new YouTube content "Kkumiltende," in which he challenges a new style. He personally reached out to fans with words of encouragement. Model Lee So-ra also offered him warm support.
Sung Si-kyung recently posted a video on his social media in which he strikes poses wearing various styles of clothing, along with a brief comment saying "ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ." The video showcases him trying out different fashions as suggested by a stylist, posing like on a runway.
Upon seeing this, Lee So-ra playfully commented, "Mr. Sung Si-kyung, you can leave the runway," and Sung Si-kyung expressed his feelings, saying, "Sister, just laugh and cheer for me." In response, Lee So-ra sent warm encouragement, saying, "That means you have succeeded. Staying on the runway implies you've fallen behind; I laughed because you are getting better and better at it."
Sung Si-kyung announced a significant change in his styling through the first episode of his YouTube content "Kkumiltende," which he released on the 23rd of last month, stepping away from his usual unembellished style. He garnered attention for embarking on shopping trips, as well as trying various experiences such as hair and nail care and spa treatments.
However, contrary to expectations, reactions were mixed. Some viewers responded with comments such as "below expectations" and "lack of transformation" due to what they deemed minimal change, and eventually, malicious comments aimed at stylists followed. In response, on the 18th, Sung Si-kyung spoke up.
He said, "I heard that the well-performing YouTube took a stumble. I’m not suddenly deciding to become a super stylish sexy guy fashionista. That’s impossible for me," he quipped about the situation. He continued, "As a man from nowhere in my 40s, I’m just trying to learn one step at a time with help. But maybe expectations were too high; the many negative comments urging to change staff have hurt my feelings."
Above all, he took a firm stance regarding the criticism aimed at the staff. Sung Si-kyung stated, "It's not because of the stylist or hair but due to my face and hair being difficult to style, so while I appreciate the support, please refrain from speaking ill of the staff. I feel very sorry for them, and my heart is heavy."
In closing, he expressed his sincere commitment, saying, "You know I won’t easily give up what I’ve started, right? I will learn slowly and step by step. Please watch over me."
Sung Si-kyung's attempt to showcase an honest change process without embellishment is still in the beginning stages. There is growing interest in the further changes he will reveal.
