Dancers Honey J and AIKI are at the center of a heated debate among internet users regarding their apology for the 'World of Street Woman Fighter' broadcast reaction controversy.
The controversy began on the 21st when a reaction video for the first episode of 'WSWF' was released through the YouTube channel 'Today, Choi Hyojin', run by dancer Hyojin Choi. In the video, Honey J made a comment after watching a performance by the Japanese crew Danica, saying, "Wow, that’s dancing, XX!" Some viewers criticized it as a sexually harassing remark. In the same video, AIKI also exclaimed, "This XXX!" fueling the controversy.
Ultimately, Honey J posted an official apology on her social media on the 22nd, expressing, "I sincerely apologize to those who were hurt by my careless remarks in the video and to many who supported me for disappointing and causing discomfort."
She continued, "While watching the first broadcast in a comfortable atmosphere with the members, I became so immersed that I showed intense reactions," and said, "I deeply reflect on my reckless words and actions that caused discomfort." Honey J also mentioned that she directly apologized to the dancer affected by her comments, stating, "As soon as I realized the situation, I conveyed my apologies to the other crew, and I am grateful for their understanding, even if they might have been offended," reiterating, "I took lightly the weight of my expressions."
She also noted, "Through this incident, I realized how much impact every word and action can have," and pledged, "I will be more cautious and thoughtful in my actions going forward."
AIKI also issued an apology on the same day, stating, "I sincerely apologize to those who felt uncomfortable due to my emotionally charged expressions," and added, "Since I have great passion for the stage, my emotions took over, but I have realized that those feelings should not hurt others," expressing contrition. She further stated, "I apologize again to the other crew and will communicate more carefully in the future."
As news of the two individuals' apologies spread, various reactions emerged online. Some internet users commented, "Is this something to apologize for?" and, "It’s just intense expressions; it seems too sensitive," adding, "Anyone can make mistakes," and, "But honestly, it’s cool that they apologized." Conversely, others pointedly remarked, "I am disappointed," "Such expressions towards foreign dancers are too rude," "They should have been more careful," and, "It’s shameful and unfortunate."
Meanwhile, the video at the center of the controversy has currently been removed from the YouTube channel.
