'Wiraquel' Park Wi consulted a psychiatrist about his concerns.
On the 20th, a video titled "The reason Park Wi, who overcame paralysis, sought a psychiatrist" was uploaded on the 'Wiraquel' channel.
On this day, Park Wi met with psychiatrist Kim Ji-yong, who runs the YouTube channel 'Brain Wealth.' Park Wi revealed, "The real reason we invited the teacher is that it's been 6 years for me as well. It's been since we started the Wiraquel channel. But many people comment, send DMs, and emails. There are many individuals suffering mentally who seek counseling, and to be honest, I find it difficult to address many of the issues based on my experiences. So at some point, I felt overwhelmed. Even though it’s a short time today, I wanted to provide answers to those people."
In response, psychiatrist Kim Ji-yong noted, "Our channel receives many stories as well. While one can empathize to a certain degree with experiences they haven't personally gone through, there are aspects one can only truly understand by experiencing them. Recklessly advising 'I understand your feelings, so try this' can sometimes worsen the situation."
Park Wi shared, "Before my injury, I never thought about people who had been injured or those with disabilities. In fact, I never even tried to think about it. But experiencing it myself made me realize that there is a world of difference between having and not having experienced it."
Then, psychiatrist Kim Ji-yong explained, "That's why I rarely say the phrase 'I understand your feelings.' Instead, I’d say, 'I can't imagine how difficult it must be for you.' When we give advice, 99% of it is already something the person has considered themselves. In reality, who else can reflect on the issue as deeply as the person involved? Yet, since they don't seem to find answers, they end up seeking counseling and even sending emails. At that point, I believe the best we can do is to listen."
Meanwhile, Park Wi got married to Song Ji-eun from Secret last September. He was diagnosed with paralysis after an accident in 2014, but some physical functions have improved through effort, and he has shared this process in videos, receiving much support.
