"Aesooni has come"…IU gifts Hermès scarf to Jeju grandmothers for 'heartwarming true story'

Singer-actor IU (Lee Ji-eun) once again showcased her image as 'the icon of loyalty.'

On the 16th, IU visited an exhibition to surprise the grandmothers from Jeju who appeared in the Netflix series "When Life Gives You Tangerines," leaving behind a warm anecdote.

That day, IU shared on her social media, along with several photos, the message, "Jeju painting grandmothers, Gwangrye-dol Aesooni has come to keep her promise." In the photos, she was quietly exploring the exhibition hall, appreciating the works of the grandmother artists. Particularly, she was seen wearing white gloves on one hand while selecting a drawing bag, showing respect for the artworks.

This exhibition featured the paintings of the 'Suneul Painting Workshop' grandmothers, with whom IU has a deep connection through her appearance in "When Life Gives You Tangerines." The artworks tell the life stories of Jeju grandmothers, averaging 87 years old, who transformed from farmers to artists, and IU created a special moment by revisiting them, bridging the drama and reality.

At the scene, IU was spotted arriving with a bundle of gifts, resembling Santa. She warmly greeted 96-year-old 'Uracacha Grandma' Jo Soo-yong and responded to the greeting, "Aesooni has come," with a warm hug.

The reason this visit was touching has another aspect. IU personally gifted the grandmother artists high-quality silk scarves, which are reportedly Hermès products. The exhibition organizers noted, "IU opened her arms to embrace the grandmothers, personally draping the scarves over their shoulders, expressing solidarity and loyalty."

In "When Life Gives You Tangerines," IU portrayed both 'Aesoon' and 'Geummyung,' depicting the lives of Jeju women warmly. Continuing her connection after filming, her visit to the exhibition of the Jeju grandmother artists is regarded as a scene showing heartfelt solidarity and loyalty beyond simple drama promotion.

Meanwhile, IU is anticipated to showcase another transformation in her acting through a new drama titled "21st Century Great Lady," which is scheduled to air next year.
