ENA's Tuesday-Thursday drama 'Salon de Holmes' provides exhilarating catharsis with female power that takes down everyday villains existing close to us and has climbed the ratings thanks to its hot word-of-mouth.
'Salon de Holmes' (directed by Min Jin-ki and Jeong Hyun-nam, written by Kim Yeon-sin, produced by Artist Company, A2Z Entertainment, and Neo Entertainment) is a comic romance action drama set in the Gwangseon Jugong APT., featuring a former ace detective, an insurance king, and the queen of part-time jobs, as four women team up to punish apartment villains.
In the first two episodes, the four women — Gong Mi-ri (played by Lee Si-young), Choo Kyung-ja (played by Jeong Yeong-joo), Park So-hee (played by Kim Da-som), and Jeon Ji-hyun (played by Nam Gi-ae) — collaborated to solve cases that resonated deeply with viewers. Especially, the fact that the villains they punished were everyday villains provided a catharsis that felt personal. In the first episode, the hidden villain is the 'adulterous couple,' a homewrecker existing around us. They revealed the sordid truth of the adulterous couple, who denied their actions, and uncovered the secret cash stash hidden by the adulterer. The second episode punished an unreasonable parking villain that even public authorities couldn't handle, using the detective team's unique methods to reform them.
The characteristic of the APT. as a setting further immerses viewers into the activities of Mi-ri, Kyung-ja, So-hee, and Ji-hyun, our community problem-solvers. Director Min Jin-ki stated, "In 'Salon de Holmes,' the APT. symbolizes our everyday life. We aimed to realistically portray the various everyday episodes set against the backdrop of the APT. by using an actual apartment as an open set for filming."
Thus, 'Salon de Holmes' showcases the refreshing efforts of the female detective team to punish malicious everyday villains based on empathy, providing catharsis that even breaks the heat, which garnered enthusiastic praise from viewers. After the broadcasts of episodes one and two, online communities and social media were abuzz with comments like, "So they join forces to punish villains like this; it’s exciting," "There is a villain like that in our APT.," "I want to request help from the detective team," and "I’m curious about what villains will appear to get punished by the detective team," a warm response expressing empathy and a desire for our community problem-solvers.
Thanks to this word-of-mouth, 'Salon de Holmes' is on the rise in ratings. Starting with a 1.3% viewership for the first episode, 'Salon de Holmes' jumped to 2.2% in the second episode, igniting a genuine upward trend in ratings. (According to Nielsen Korea, nationwide) Attention is now focused on what kind of everyday villains our community problem-solvers will punish next to provide exhilarating and satisfying catharsis.
