Top star Lee Hyori's past remarks have resurfaced, putting her at the center of controversy. "I'm thankful if a child comes naturally, but I don't want to undergo in vitro fertilization," she said. In the comments section, reactions vary from negative comments to those supporting her beliefs.

Lee Hyori appeared as the last guest of MBC Every1's variety show 'Brother of the Tteokbokki House' aired in May 2022, mentioning her plans for having a second child and bringing up in vitro fertilization.

Lee Hyori, who married Lee Sang-soon in 2013, revealed in response to questions about her plans for pregnancy and childbirth that she "doesn't want to go as far as in vitro fertilization. I don't want to desperately rely on medical help that much." She added, "If a child comes naturally, I would be very grateful and want to raise them. I know someone who had their first child at the age of 58."

She continued, "The reason I want to have a child is that I want to have the love and devotion that mothers have for their children. I feel that I've lived a very important life. I want to experience something where I disappear for something. Recently, I read a book about a mother practicing yoga in India who, after much struggle with infertility, resolved to live as if she were 'like every mother, even if my child does not exist.' When I saw that, I wondered, 'Why did I think that I had to have a child to experience true love?' Even if a child does not come to me, I want to live with that kind of mindset."

Earlier, Lee Hyori also made a surprise confession on MBC's variety show 'What Do You Do When You Play?' in 2020, saying, "I have a plan for pregnancy, but if I don't have a child, I will still participate in winter activities. I'm currently taking traditional medicine."

Lee Hyori joked with Yoo Jae-suk, saying, "It's already been eight years of marriage, and talking about pregnancy is natural," while asking him to gift her a box of pregnancy tests. She mentioned that during her time with Refund Expedition, her doctor advised her to refrain from drinking to conceive, saying, "I haven't been able to drink even once at home. I've told my brother Lee Sang-soon to quit smoking. I'm busy day and night," indicating she is consistently planning.

Lee Hyori also mentioned on the web variety show Tving's 'Seoul Check-In' that she has thought about having a child but that it is more difficult because of her age, adding that she has been struggling with infertility.

The mention of Lee Hyori's in vitro fertilization has made headlines again after a post in an online community was written about her remarks from three years ago.

Currently, there are over 1,000 comments in the article's comments section, with reactions such as, "If she had been more careful with her words as a celebrity..." vs. "It’s a valid point and this is Lee Hyori's choice, so I support her."

"This is an article that will make those struggling with in vitro fertilization very sad," said one comment. "I’m a mother of two whose pregnancies were natural, but I wonder how much those who undergo in vitro fertilization have suffered waiting for a baby. She seems to have thought about conceiving but feels some kind of inferiority when it doesn't happen?" Another remarked, "Don't say such things carelessly," while yet another noted, "As a celebrity and public figure, she should be more cautious with her comments." Many have said, "It's their choice, but I wonder if they could have been a bit more prudent given that many couples are desperately trying for a child, spending money and time on procedures, and injecting themselves while working. Rather, they could have said that because of their age, the chances of treatment are low, and they hope for a natural pregnancy, which might not have hurt or angered anyone."

On the other hand, some have expressed opinions such as, "She hasn't made a single negative remark about in vitro fertilization; this is a gross misinterpretation," and, "She only said, 'I prefer a natural meeting over an artificial introduction,' yet some are going overboard with their outrage." Another noted, "Wow... intervening in someone else's life to the point of cursing! Did Lee Hyori say not to pursue in vitro fertilization?" One person said, "I completely agree with Lee Hyori's remarks," while another commented, "Is this comment serious? Lee Hyori might have different views... People are making a fuss just because they are different." One more added, "I too believe it’s a blessing if it comes naturally, but if it doesn’t, I can live happily with my husband with support. I support her."

However, some internet users are pouring out harsh comments that are purely insulting rather than constructive criticism, which is causing frowns.
