Singer Tao (Huang Zitao), former member of EXO, expressed his position regarding the foreign substance controversy surrounding the sanitary pad brand he launched.
On the 17th, Tao clarified through China's social media platform Weibo, "The black spots in question are caused by fibers carbonized due to heat during the nonwoven production process, which are not harmful to the human body." He explained, "The general management standard is 0.5mm, but our company applies a stricter quality inspection of 0.3mm."
Earlier, some consumers pointed out the quality of Tao's brand sanitary pads, saying they found small black spots, and Tao's side quickly responded to this.
Tao said, "If customers feel uncomfortable with the product, we will exchange it for a new one through the customer center," adding, "I started this brand with the belief that transparency is quality. I will open up the entire factory, allowing anyone to verify the production process online." He even publicly disclosed certification photos from the factory.
Tao's entry into the sanitary pad business came after he learned through a whistleblower program in China earlier this year that defective sanitary pads were being resold. At that time, Tao expressed his anger, saying, "It's truly disgusting. I cannot tolerate corporations sacrificing women's health for profit," and announced, "I will set up a sanitary pad factory and livestream the production process 24 hours a day," stating that the public will oversee the entire process from raw material procurement to packaging as he began selling sanitary pads.
Later, Tao conducted tests comparing his brand's sanitary pads with those of other brands through a live broadcast on his social media, even directly revealing factory CCTV cameras, attracting attention.
Due to Tao's enthusiastic promotion, the brand received significant interest from the moment it launched. During a live broadcast held last month, approximately 450,000 boxes were sold in just 30 minutes, generating sales of about 3.5 billion won.
Meanwhile, after leaving EXO in 2015, Tao returned to China to continue his solo activities and has gained attention as an entrepreneur since inheriting his father's estate in 2020. He also announced his marriage to Chinese singer and actress Shiyang in December last year.
