The suspect who threatened volleyball legend Kim Yohan with retaliation received a guilty verdict of 1 year in prison.

On the 18th, Kim Yohan's agency, Janggun Entertainment, released an official statement, noting that "Hong, who recently threatened Kim Yohan with retaliation, has been sentenced to 1 year in prison by the criminal division of the Seoul Central District Court and has been taken into custody."

Hong has been charged with extortion and threats, as well as violations of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, including defamation, for spreading baseless allegations of illegal gambling and privacy disputes in June 2023 and January 2024. As a result, Kim Yohan suffered damages and left all his commentary and broadcasting activities.

After receiving the guilty verdict, Hong harbored resentment toward Kim Yohan and began another act of retaliation in June 2024. He was charged with violations of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (retaliatory threats) and was sentenced to 1 year in prison on the 30th of last month. Separately, Kim Yohan won a civil lawsuit he filed against Hong for defamation through the spread of false information and cleared all accusations.

The agency stated, "We sincerely apologize for causing concern to our fans and stakeholders due to this incident. Although it took a long time for the truth to be revealed, we thank those who have supported Kim Yohan, who has suffered extreme mental distress," adding, "In the future, Janggun Entertainment will spare no effort in fully supporting Kim Yohan to continue various activities."
