'28 Years Later' director Danny Boyle revealed the reason for the sequel coming after 20 years.

On the morning of the 18th, an online press conference via video call was held with director Danny Boyle of the film '28 Years Later.'

'28 Years Later' (directed by Danny Boyle, written by Alex Garland, distributed by Sony Pictures) tells the story of a boy named Spike born on Holy Island, where some survivors live in complete isolation after the world was ravaged by a virus that started 28 years ago. It depicts the extreme terror he faces after leaving the island for the first time and encountering evolved infected individuals on the virus-ravaged mainland.

A landmark film that introduced running zombies and transformed the traditional zombie movie framework, '28 Days Later' is considered one of the best horror movies of the 2000s and presents a more expansive story in its sequel. Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle once again takes the helm, with writer Alex Garland also returning to maintain the identity of '28 Days Later.'

Regarding the reason for revisiting the film after 20 years, director Danny Boyle said, "First of all, the script was so good and it contained an incredible story. There was the global experience of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the scenes shown in the first film were not far from reality. You could see empty streets just by stepping outside your door. All these elements naturally blended into the film."

In particular, he noted, "Not only that, but the most important thing was the love of the fans for the first film. It was a love that has not cooled over 20 years. We worked with the production team and wondered how it would be to do it again. We brought back the rage virus from the first film and explore how the outcomes from the first film continue. However, with new stories emerging, many people will find it enjoyable. There is a great new story, and excellent actors performed in it."

Meanwhile, '28 Years Later' will be released on the 19th.
