MBC has decided to strategically schedule 'Casino' following 'Moving.'
On July 4th (Friday) at 10 p.m., MBC will broadcast the drama 'Casino' (directed/written by Kang Yoon-seong | produced by Ackmedia, C-JeS Entertainment, BA Entertainment), which has garnered attention as an original series on the global OTT platform Disney+, as the first broadcast on television as part of the 'MBC Special Series.'
The drama 'Casino' depicts a fierce psychological battle between ‘Cha Mu-sik’ (played by Choi Min-sik), a former legend who ruled the Philippine casino industry, who throws his last gamble after his fall, and the determined Korean desk detective ‘Oh Seung-hoon’ (played by Son Suk-ku), who persistently pursues him. It is a crime action series by director Kang Yoon-seong, known for films like 'The Outlaws' and 'Long Live the King,' and has attracted attention as the comeback project for actor Choi Min-sik after a 26-year hiatus in dramas.
The teaser video released ahead of the first broadcast features a shocking opening where Cha Mu-sik is arrested as a suspect in a murder case at a large casino in the Philippines. It then showcases his tumultuous life story in fast-paced flashbacks, from his childhood at a daycare, through his time at a language academy in Daejeon, to the expansion of illegal casino operations, increasing immersion.
In particular, the local all-location filming in the Philippines, the multinational character composition mixing Korean, English, and Tagalog, and the weighty narrative depicting life from the bottom to the top provide a unique realism and immersion that is characteristic of 'Casino.'
MBC said, 'The drama 'Casino' is a distinctive work that crosses the boundaries of crime, thriller, and black comedy,' adding, 'Through the character Cha Mu-sik, viewers will feel the rampage of a man who had to risk everything in every episode.'
Meanwhile, through the current scheduling of the MBC Special Series, MBC plans to sequentially broadcast Seasons 1 and 2 of 'Casino,' totaling 16 episodes on Disney Plus. Season 1 will air every Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m. starting July 4th, while Season 2 will be fixed for Sundays starting in August. MBC had previously established a synergy model between OTT and terrestrial broadcasts by strategically scheduling the Disney+ original series 'Moving,' and 'Casino' is expected to be a significant case in terms of extending content lifespan and expanding viewer access to content.
Armed with a solid narrative and the bold performance of actor Choi Min-sik, the MBC Special Series 'Casino' will premiere on July 4th at 10 p.m.
