Actress Sunwoo Yongyeo revealed that she was named after late director Kim Ki-young, famous for the movie 'The Housemaid.'
On the 18th, a video titled 'Sunwoo Yongyeo's chaotic trip to Japan, almost taken to the embassy with her best friend Jeon Won-joo' was uploaded on the YouTube channel 'Sunny Wind Sunwoo Yongyeo.'
Before meeting her close friend Jeon Won-joo, a name tag on Sunwoo Yongyeo's travel bag caught attention with 'Jung Yong-rye' written on it. In this regard, Sunwoo Yongyeo noted, "My real name is Jung Yong-rye," surprising everyone.
Sunwoo Yongyeo explained, "I changed my name because of the movie 'The Soldier Speaks After Death.' Late director Kim Ki-young changed it for me. He was from North Korea and said I resembled an actress from there. That woman was called 'Sunwoo.' So that's why I changed my name. I've used it ever since. I just did as I was told."
Additionally, Sunwoo Yongyeo shared her first story about entering a cabaret following Jeon Won-joo and her past performing in theater shows. Sunwoo Yongyeo stated, "They told me I only needed to learn two songs to sing in the cabaret. At first, I only went to theater shows, not cabarets. So, I learned 'I Love You.'"
She continued, "At that time, late Gil Ok-yoon was there as the bandmaster. Since her voice was quite unique, I thought she'd give me a song. But since she was a married woman with two kids, she refused, saying she was there to make money, not to sing. If I had received one song then, it could have been a big deal. I didn't even know I was dealing with the best composer," she laughed.
