Director Yoon Sung-sik and writer Yoon Soo-jung, who worked together in 'The King's Face,' reunited successfully after 10 years, as 'The Haunted Palace' recorded successful viewership ratings and publicity.
On the 18th, director Yoon Sung-sik of SBS's 'The Haunted Palace' and writer Yoon Soo-jung expressed their thoughts on their successful reunion after 10 years.
'The Haunted Palace' is a fantasy romantic comedy where a shamaness named Yeori, who rejects the fate of a spirit medium, and the body of her first love, Yoon-gap, are caught in a struggle for a body as they confront a grudge-filled creature, Gangcheol, at the royal house, featuring actors Yook Sung-jae, Kim Ji-yeon, and Kim Ji-hoon.
This work attracted attention as it marked the reunion of director Yoon Sung-sik, known for dramas such as 'Mr. Queen,' 'Lee Soon Shin is the Best,' 'Bridal Mask,' and 'Dae Joyeong,' and writer Yoon Soo-jung, who wrote 'The King's Face' and 'Cheer Up!' after 10 years.
Firstly, writer Yoon Soo-jung shared her thoughts on collaborating with director Yoon Sung-sik after 10 years, stating, 'I was quite anxious because a few months passed after the scheduling of 'The Haunted Palace' was decided and the director was not confirmed. Then, director Yoon Sung-sik decided to take on the direction, and since I already knew his talent through the work 'The King's Face,' I thought it was a great opportunity.'
Yoon further expressed gratitude, saying, 'The process of working together went smoothly, and the director respected the direction I wanted to take the story. Also, through the process of exchanging ideas and meetings, we could create a more polished script.'
Director Yoon Sung-sik also explained, 'Although it was a reunion with Yoon, we found it easy to communicate because our perspectives on the drama were similar, and especially for 'The Haunted Palace,' we worked in a way that added realistic and concrete ideas based on a shared understanding of the writer's planning and the initial script.'
He recalled, 'Since there were almost no disagreements about the planning intention and story structure, we had many discussions regarding detailed character settings and the fantasy elements of the action. It was pleasant and enjoyable to work together due to the efficient and productive communication that allowed us to accept and develop each other's ideas.'
Perhaps due to this synergy, 'The Haunted Palace' started with a high viewership rating of 9.2% (Nielsen Korea, nationwide) from its first broadcast and concluded with a rating of 11% for its final episode, receiving much love and wrapping up successfully after 10 years.
