Member Hwang Seong-bin of the group 82MAJOR addressed allegations regarding his ties to the far-right community "Ilgan Best Repository (Ilbe)" and issued an apology.
On the 13th, Hwang Seong-bin published a lengthy handwritten apology note on the official 82MAJOR social media account, saying, "Hello. I am Hwang Seong-bin of 82MAJOR."
Hwang Seong-bin lowered his head and said, "I sincerely apologize for causing discomfort and disappointment to many regarding my past personal account."
Previously, various online communities revealed that Hwang Seong-bin had liked a rap belittling former President Moon Jae-in on the music platform SoundCloud, leading to suspicions of ties to the far-right site 'Ilbe' (Ilgan Best).
Additionally, he faced controversy when it was revealed that he made a 'diss rap' mocking a member who ran 6.6 km on Memorial Day and 8.5 km on Liberation Day during a concert.
In relation to this, Hwang Seong-bin stated, "When I was just starting music as a student, I simply liked a song from an artist and marked 'like' whenever new music was uploaded without fully understanding the message and meaning behind the music. Reflecting on it, I realize that my actions were indeed a shortcoming, and I was very careless."
He continued, "Furthermore, the rap I performed at the concert was meant to express a unique side of a member; however, I failed to consider the weight of the words and caused discomfort in the process."
He also expressed, "I sincerely apologize to the fans who have supported me and to those who cherish our team for disappointing them. As a singer, I feel very embarrassed, and I realize the significant responsibility that comes with each of my words and actions. I will take this incident as an opportunity to think more deeply and to act with more caution in the future," he added.
