Actress Lee Ui-jeong has overcome a terminal illness, but revealed her unfortunate physical condition, leaving viewers saddened.
On the 12th, during the broadcast of MBN's "Exclusive World," Lee Ui-jeong recalled the time when she was given a three-month terminal prognosis due to her battle with a brain tumor, saying, "I went to the emergency room for a CT scan, and they said my condition was not good. I was given a three-month terminal prognosis. Five years later, necrosis occurred on the other side. Avascular necrosis of the hip," and revealed that she overcame the malignant tumor but suffered from avascular necrosis as a consequence.
Having been undergoing rehabilitation exercises for 15 years, she takes a staggering 18 medications daily. Lee Ui-jeong said, "They told me that after the surgery, once everything healed and I recovered, my sleeping function was disrupted. My brain is not sleeping. The brain is in an overload state. It was said that the same disease could occur again. I have been taking medication for 15 years. I take 18 medications to stay alive."
Lee Ui-jeong, who is managing her health with a strict diet and exercise, skipped breakfast due to feeling unwell. She shared, "My gallbladder doesn't function. It completely died. That's why I had my gallbladder removed. And I received too many steroids, which led to a tonsillectomy and the removal of my uvula," revealing her difficult physical condition.
By her side is Jang Su-ho, who is 9 years younger and has been with her for 6 years. Born in 1984, he is a former judo athlete. At 18, he met Lee Ui-jeong, who was the top star known as 'Lightning Head', as a fan and actor, and expressed his feelings for her six years ago, becoming a couple.
Jang Su-ho said, "I started seeing her as a woman because we go to the gym together, eat, and I take her home. I didn’t care about her age since she looked so young." Lee Ui-jeong expressed her gratitude, saying, "He feels more like an older brother. He's better than family. He positively accepts whatever I do. I’m so thankful because there’s no one who does that for me. It’s hard for someone to do that."
However, Lee Ui-jeong hesitated about marriage for a reason. She revealed, "My parents have given their approval for marriage, but they must be thinking about having children. I can’t have children. Due to my hip surgery, I can’t bear a child. My hips can’t handle a weight of 20 kilograms. The hospital advised against having kids."
Lee, who has experienced aftereffects from her past brain tumor battle, added, "There’s also a possibility of genetic transmission. I can’t pass on my illness. I will live a life of pain. I felt sorry for delaying marriage, which is something that everyone does normally but I can’t do."
Nevertheless, Jang Su-ho responded emotionally, saying, "What’s important to me is for you not to be in pain rather than having children. I feel the same way. My parents might want that, but it’s not realistic. As long as you’re healthy and not in pain, that’s enough. Just let go of the burden completely. I agree with that fact too."
