Park Tae-hwan from 'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant' revealed the reality of his pension as well as confessed about his family history.
A candid story of the legend who made history in swimming in Korea was shared on the KBS2 entertainment show 'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant' aired on the 13th.
That day, Park Tae-hwan headed somewhere, saying, "It was a restaurant I always wanted to visit." The destination was actually the APT. cafeteria.
It turned out that Park Tae-hwan lived in the luxurious high-end APT. Seongsu Trimage, which is known as the 'celebrity's APT.' In particular, the APT. attracts attention as it is known to house more than 100 celebrities including Son Heung-min, J-Hope from BTS, Park Se-ri, Seo Kang-jun, Seon Woo Yong-nyeo, Yura, and Lee Teuk, and is known as 'the Han River view APT.'
Park Tae-hwan, mentioning he often meets his neighbor Lee Teuk, said, "Lee Teuk hyung introduced me saying, 'There’s something delicious,'" and searched for the cafeteria in the APT. After ordering three signature burgers, he showcased an eating broadcast, stating that the payment would be charged to the management fee.
The production team then asked, "You must receive a substantial pension, right?" Park Tae-hwan replied, "It's impossible to live off a pension for a lifetime. For example, you need to accumulate 10 points for a silver medal and 30 points for a gold medal. You need to stack them all up. You need to accumulate 100 points for the pension to be registered."
In particular, Park Tae-hwan noted that he accumulated all 100 points from the moment he participated in the 2006 Doha Asian Games, where he competed for the first time in high school. He said, "Three bronze medals, one silver medal, and three gold medals," adding, "That amount feels a bit salty like a salt bread."
He further explained, "Once you accumulate 100 points, you receive a pension for a lifetime. Since I have already accumulated points, any additional points will be paid in cash. It will be a lump sum payment," clarifying that he is paid in cash instead of points. He even mentioned that a prize money is awarded for each medal, but Park Tae-hwan stated, "However, I have donated all the prize money."
Meanwhile, Park Tae-hwan, reflecting on his days of intense training for 16 hours a day during his active career, revealed his family history. Speaking about what kept him enduring the grueling training, he said, "When my mother was battling cancer when I was young, it was tough. I thought I had to do everything I could not to be the number one in Korea in swimming, but for my parents."
He added, "Even if I felt extreme pain that felt like my heart would burst, I thought it was nothing compared to what my mother was feeling."
Park Tae-hwan shared, "Swimming makes your breathing very harsh, and I feel like I'm going to burst or die, but I don't die. I thought that compared to the pain my mother feels, this is just whining."
He conveyed that the happiest moments were, "Of course, I felt best when I came in first place, but aside from that, gifting my parents a house and a car brought me happiness. That was a really happy time."
