Actor Kim Il-woo has been gone for 21 years.
A graduate of Seoul Institute of the Arts' Theater Department, Kim Il-woo made his debut in 1976 with the play 'The Woman of Choonpung'. While working as a project assistant, he appeared in the movie 'Children of Darkness' in 1980 on the recommendation of Ahn Seong-ki, embarking on his acting career.
He won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 34th Daesang Film Festival for the movie 'Student Army Corps' and received the Best Supporting Actor award at the Asia-Pacific International Film Festival in 1997.
In 2001, he gained great popularity with the movie 'My Sassy Girl'. He played the role of a quintuplet, bringing comic relief to the play. In addition, he fueled his passion for acting by appearing in the 'Two Cops' series, 'No Mercy for the Rude', 'Volcano High', 'Let's Fly', and 'Mokpo, The Harbor'.
Meanwhile, he served as the representative of the theater company 'Hyun-bin' and continued to perform on stage. His wife, Lee Yong-hee, is also an actress and the sister of 'Byeon Gang-soo' Lee Dae-geun. The couple has one son and one daughter.
However, during the filming of the movie 'Mokpo, The Harbor', Kim Il-woo was diagnosed with stomach cancer. While battling the illness, he passed away on June 13, 2004, surrounded by his loved ones, at the age of 52.
It has been over 20 years since he passed, but the passion for acting he left behind still lives on vividly.
