In "The First Night With the Duke," Seohyun suddenly woke up in the same bedroom as Ok Taecyeon.
In KBS2's new Wednesday-Thursday drama "The First Night With the Duke" (written by Jeon Sun-young, directed by Lee Woong-hee and Kang Soo-yeon, planned and produced by Studio N and Monster Union, hereafter referred to as The First Night With the Duke), a modern individual K (played by Seohyun) faces an unexpected calamity as she becomes cast into the role of a supporting character in a single-line folding screen, Cha Seon-chaek.
K's only source of happiness in life was reading "The Tyrant’s Obsession." However, he was upset by the sudden notice of serialization's halt, and after downing a cold beer, he expressed his frustration, saying, "Do you know what you have done to me, author? You have taken away my source of joy in life. I could write better than this even with my left foot," before falling asleep.
K, upon waking, found himself dressed in a traditional outfit with long hair, being called "Lady". Bangul (played by Oh Se-eun) referred to him as "Lady" and informed him of Cha Seon-chaek's name. That name belonged to a supporting character in a web novel who was mentioned in a single phrase: "Through the words of the third daughter of the Prime Minister, Cha Seon-chaek, the heinous deeds of Hwasun spread widely."
In a daze, Cha Seon-chaek, who had been beautifully dressed by her maid, soon confronted a bewildering reality. Her father was the Prime Minister, her mother was the Chief Consort, and her brothers were simpletons. It was a kind family that would even give up their insides for their only daughter and younger sister.
Cha Seon-chaek exclaimed, "Is this life of being pampered and dressed a supporting role?" and "Money is everything! Long live the world of novels!" She then headed straight to the fabric store, carrying her father's money. Today marked the day when the story began with the female protagonist, Jo Eun-ae (played by Kwon Han-sol), being humiliated by the villain, Do Hwa-seon (played by Ji Hye-won), at the very start of the novel.
However, when she saw Do Hwa-seon, Cha Seon-chaek willingly gave up her silk dress. Cha Seon-chaek noted, "Do Hwa-seon, the third daughter of the Minister of Personnel. As her name suggests, she is the villain who causes all conflicts and events!" Knowing of Do Hwa-seon's immense misdeeds in advance, she stepped back. After all, she was satisfied to watch the beautiful female lead Jo Eun-ae, who overcame adversity and rose to wealth, along with her loving supporting male lead, Jeong Soo-gyeom (played by Seo Beom-joon), and the male protagonist, Gyeongseon-gun Ibeon (played by Ok Taecyeon).
From a distance, Cha Seon-chaek immediately recognized Ibeon and was astonished at how much more handsome he was than expected. Though she had to pretend not to know Jo Eun-ae, who was being humiliated at the fabric store, she couldn't bear to see her favorite character being entrapped in a nasty scandal and suffering. Cha Seon-chaek showcased the traits of modern K. It was a dazzling display akin to a competition-winning bartender mixing a cocktail, with splendid movements and graceful beauty as she danced while mixing drinks, capturing everyone’s attention.
What's more, it tasted fantastic. In the middle of the night, word of her drink spread throughout the city, and people came rushing in, regardless of their status, to partake in Cha Seon-chaek's beverage.
Cha Seon-chaek was intoxicated on the first day of this thrilling life, which was so different from reality. When she opened her eyes, she discovered she was feeling a man's solid chest. Shocked, the realization that the bare-chested man was Ibeon left her even more stunned. Ibeon stated, "You tormented me last night and now act surprised," chuckling, which sent Cha Seon-chaek into a state of bewilderment.
