Prosecutors have sought a three-year prison sentence for a 'Busan International' employee charged with illegally filming sexual activities with a female employee.
On the 5th, Judge Heo Seong-min of Busan District Court's Criminal Division 10 held a sentencing hearing for a man in his 40s, identified as A, charged with violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (filming using cameras, etc.).
On this day, prosecutors sought a three-year prison sentence for the offender A. They also requested the court to impose a requirement to complete a sexual violence treatment program and a five-year employment restriction at welfare facilities for children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities.
A, an employee of the Busan International Film Festival, was charged with secretly filming sexual activities with a woman in her 30s, identified as B, with whom he worked on a short-term contract in July 2023. A was also charged for secretly filming multiple photos of sexual activities with B using his mobile phone in April of the same year.
The victim B, who learned about the illegal filming later, reported A's case to the Korea Film Gender Equality Center, known as "Dundun," in February of last year, and Dundun has been supporting the criminal and civil lawsuits through psychological counseling for B and collaboration with Dundun's advisory lawyers.
Meanwhile, at the sentencing hearing held on the 5th, A acknowledged the facts of the indictment, and the victim B expressed her desire for a severe punishment for A. The sentencing for this case is expected to take place on July 3.
"In relation to this incident, Dundun noted that in a statement released in March, it expressed concerns about the Busan International Film Festival's inadequate measures for separating the perpetrator from work, its insufficient response system to sexual violence cases, and its lenient handling of sexual violence cases, urging for improvements in the organizational culture towards gender equality and active measures for victim recovery. In response, Busan International released a statement the next day correcting some factual inaccuracies and providing additional explanations of Dundun's statement."
"Dundun has communicated closely with the victim regarding Busan International's statement, and received word from the victim that there are aspects where the 'corrections and additional explanations' provided by Busan International distort the facts, and that she was further hurt not only by the sexual violence but also by the subsequent inadequate measures and responses from Busan International," adding that "Dundun plans to clarify its position on recovery measures, including strict punishment for the perpetrator, in consultation with the victim once the verdict is announced."
