'Shooting Star Season 2' assistant coach Seol Ki-hyun aims for head coach Choi Yong-soo's position.
On the 12th, a site visit for the filming of Coupang Play's entertainment show 'Shooting Star Season 2' (hereinafter Shooting Star 2) was conducted at Yongin Mir Stadium in Samga-dong, Cheoin-gu, Yongin. Present were Producer Jo Hyo-jin, head coach Choi Yong-soo, assistant coach Seol Ki-hyun, players Koo Ja-cheol, Lee Geun-ho, Patrice Evra, among others.
'Shooting Star 2' is the only full-time growth soccer entertainment program in Korea, where retired legend players challenge active K League athletes alongside Director General Park Ji-sung and head coach Choi Yong-soo. Last season, 'Shooting Star' proved its real-time popularity by surpassing 3 million cumulative views on shorts and reels, and it continues the 'Shooting Star Syndrome' again toward higher goals with upgraded cast compared to Season 1 and challenges from K3 League active players.
FC Shooting Star, promoted to the K3 League, will compete against K3 clubs, the highest domestic semi-professional league connecting K League 1 and K League 2. With stronger opponents, the players have also been upgraded to a level that can be called a dream team. This season features Koo Ja-cheol, a key player in the bronze medal-winning team at the 2012 London Olympics and former captain of the national team leading the 'London Generation'; Lee Geun-ho, known as 'Son of the Sun' who was awarded MVP in the AFC Champions League and Player of the Year; Yoon Ki-hoon, who received high praise from head coach Choi Yong-soo in Season 1 as 'Yeom Star'; and new signings such as legendary defender Yoon Young-sun, combining with existing players.
Head coach Choi Yong-soo said about Season 2, "We are playing against bigger K3 League teams, and I want to keep the promise made with the players during Season 1. I often regret whether I could have approached the players more closely while living the life of a coach. I was overly obsessed with the need for success back then, but since the players are the main characters, I wonder how I could have approached them more elegantly." He added, "I want to convey the process of creation and a good story to the fans rather than just the results."
Seol Ki-hyun assists head coach Choi Yong-soo as an assistant coach. Coach Seol Ki-hyun said, "I couldn't assist properly during Season 1 because I was only doing head coaching. I need to approach it from a coach's perspective, but I was still acting like a head coach, resulting in some mismatches of opinions. Now that I've continued, we're starting to work well together. At first, I didn't think he was an excellent coach, but after working together in Seasons 1 and 2, there are things I can learn from him."
In particular, coach Seol Ki-hyun stated, "The K3 League has a high level, but there are times when results do not come out. I feel that a crisis may come for the head coach, and I am preparing for that," expressing his ambition for the coaching position, which brought a smile.
Coupang Play's entertainment show 'Shooting Star Season 2' is set to be released in the second half of this year.
