In an interview, Choi Seong-guk, the 'first love expert' of 'The Love Expert of Joseon' and a 54-year-old 'late bloomer dad,' recently announced the pregnancy of his second child, 'Hambak.'
Choi Seong-guk surprised viewers by revealing on the entertainment program 'The Love Expert of Joseon,' which aired on TV CHOSUN at 10 p.m. on the 9th, that his first-born, Choi Si-yoon, born in 2023, is getting a sibling. He noted that 'I haven't seriously thought about family planning,' and that earlier this year, when his wife expressed the desire to have a sibling for Si-yoon, he said, 'It would be nice if fate comes; if it doesn't, let's not worry about it.' However, when the pregnancy test showed two lines, he happily conveyed the news of 'Hambak's' natural conception.
Choi Seong-guk expressed his hope that the second child, Hambak, will be a boy, saying, 'My wife wants a daughter, but I want a son. Someday the three boys will go to the bathhouse together.' He also noted, 'I chose the name for Si-yoon from options provided by a naming agency. I plan to name Hambak myself,' showing a sense of ease that is different from when Si-yoon was born.
Choi Seong-guk, who is set to become a father of two at the age of 54, shared, 'I quit smoking 10 years ago. I’ve also stopped drinking, partly because of raising children. Additionally, I started taking nutrition supplements that my wife prepared, which seems to have made a difference.' Regarding his wife, who has just entered the early pregnancy stage, he mentioned, 'She has been very sensitive lately due to severe morning sickness. I take on all her complaints and suggestions. I think to myself, 'If not me, who else would she tell this to?' and later she apologizes, saying she felt sorry.' He also mentioned that he customizes meal options according to his wife's preferences, showcasing his affectionate side.
Choi Seong-guk, who previously appeared on 'The Love Expert of Joseon,' has shared in the wedding and honeymoon of his 24-year-younger wife, as well as the process of pregnancy and childbirth. After the birth of his first child, Choi Si-yoon, in September 2023, his wife took some time to rest at her family home in Busan. Choi Seong-guk said, 'We haven't decided yet whether we will stay in Busan until 100 days after the birth like we did with Si-yoon or stay in Seoul. We will choose the obstetrician by early to mid-July. We can decide before then,' sharing his joyful considerations about the second childbirth.
Having experienced a glorious 'single man's prime,' he has also witnessed the film-like wedding story of his close friend, Shim Hyun-seob, through 'The Love Expert of Joseon.' Choi Seong-guk remarked, 'While doing this program, I realize each episode that meetings, marriages, pregnancies, and childbirth can all be created through 'effort.' Especially in terms of meeting, the 'Love Expert of Joseon' team can assist. Personally, I hope that all the many 'single men and women' around me—brothers, sisters, and younger siblings—will come and experience a warm change,' conveying his hopes. Lastly, he made a romantic confession reflective of his title as the original love expert by saying to his wife, who is going through difficult times, 'You said you can't be without me. I've been hiding this all along, but I feel the same...'
