A sasaeng fan who broke into NewJeans' accommodation and stole items was sentenced to prison.
On the 11th, the Seoul Western District Court's Criminal 9 Division (Judge Kim Min-jeong) held a hearing for Mr. A, who is facing charges of trespassing and theft. During the hearing, prosecutors requested a 10-month prison sentence for Mr. A.
Mr. A illegally entered the NewJeans accommodation located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on December 18 last year and confirmed that the door was open before entering again three days later on December 21.
After entering the accommodation, Mr. A stole hangers and banners, and also filmed the place to upload it online. At the time, the accommodation was vacant, as NewJeans had announced the termination of their contract with ADOR.
Mr. A's attorney acknowledged all the charges, saying, "He deserves to be criticized. However, he is reflecting on his actions and actively cooperating with the investigation," and requested leniency, stating, "Considering the defendant's usual behavior, the risk of reoffending is low. He thought that taking the hangers and banners after NewJeans moved out would not constitute theft."
Mr. A also took out a prepared note and said, "I acted recklessly and made a mistake. I am sorry to have caused deep harm to the singer I supported and the agency. Please give me a chance to fulfill my dream of becoming a public servant. I will take care of my sick mother and live well," while showing tears.
