The group MAMAMOO member Solar has stepped up as a global artist by releasing a Chinese single.
Solar released her Chinese single "Floating Free" on various music streaming sites today (Nov. 11) at 1 a.m.
"Floating Free" is a single sung by Solar in Chinese, and her warm and cozy voice, combined with retro synthesizers that spread like waves, invites listeners to the boundary between dreams and reality.
In particular, Solar maximized the musical synergy by collaborating with the Taipei indie music scene’s representative singer-songwriter 9m88. Critics noted that she conveyed genuine emotion that transcended borders and cultures through the language of "music." Solar and 9m88 also participated in the lyrics, adding more meaning.
Next is Solar's Q&A as she embarks on full-fledged overseas activities with the release of her Chinese single "Floating Free."
Q. This is your first time presenting a Chinese single since your debut. What are your thoughts on the release of "Floating Free"?
A. I am so happy that my first Chinese single is coming out to the world! I am still lacking, but I am working hard to learn Chinese, and I want to communicate more actively with this song. Haha.
Q. The duet news with Taipei-based singer-songwriter 9m88 was a hot topic. Can you share how the collaboration came about and how the two of you worked together?
A. Since this is my first Chinese single, I really wanted to work with 9m88, and I am so grateful and honored that she gladly accepted the collaboration proposal. Our vocal styles are quite different, but I think we blended very well in this song. I believe 9m88's voice made "Floating Free" even more perfect!
Q. You directly participated in the lyrics of "Floating Free". What message were you trying to convey?
A. I participated in the lyrics of the Korean version of "Floating Free," and I think the lyrics came together faster because they contained the stories of me and my fans. Although we are far apart, I wrote the lyrics thinking about how we become one through music.
Q. The music video, which was filmed in all locations around Taipei, was impressive. Are there any memorable behind-the-scenes moments from the shoot?
A. During the filming at the APT., a resident watched us and handed us corn, which was very touching. I was really grateful! Also, it was my first time riding a bike in Taipei, and the scenery was so beautiful that I felt amazing. I took many photos here and there; every background was so pretty that it felt like a special experience. I wish I could remember it all by myself because everywhere I looked had picturesque backgrounds. I hope fans can also feel the emotions and memories of that day through the "Floating Free" music video!
Q. Along with the release of the Chinese single, you're also hosting a solo fan concert in Taipei. Please share a word about your determination as you begin your first overseas activities.
A. My first Chinese single release has finally happened! I was nervous, but I am so proud that my fans really liked it. I am currently learning Chinese diligently, and I want to make sure to communicate in Chinese! I also hope "Floating Free" can provide comfort and empathy to many people. I am working hard to prepare various promotions, including the fan concert, so I hope for high expectations. Thank you!
