Director Hwang Dong-hyuk of 'Squid Game' Season 3 shared his honest thoughts on the spoiler controversy involving Park Gyuyoung that arose earlier this year. Park Gyuyoung, who sparked a major spoiler controversy, also spoke out for the first time.

On the 9th, a production presentation for Netflix's 'Squid Game' Season 3 was held at the Grand Ballroom Halla in Seoul Dragon City, Yongsan District. In attendance were director Hwang Dong-hyuk and lead actors Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Yim Siwan, Kang Ha-neul, Wi Ha-jun, Park Gyuyoung, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Jo Yuri, Chae Gook-hee, Lee Dawit, and Noh Jae-won.

Given the immense global attention on the work, the production team and actors are particularly mindful of spoilers, and it is reported that they have signed non-disclosure agreements.

However, in January, Park Gyuyoung, who plays No-eul, a character from a defector background, faced a spoiler controversy after posting behind-the-scenes photos from the Season 2 filming site on her personal social media.

The released photos captured Park Gyuyoung taking a break in a pink soldier costume, with another actor relaxing in a chair behind her. Speculation arose that a significant plot twist for Season 3 was carelessly revealed as the male actor who appeared in Season 2 was also wearing a pink soldier outfit.

As the controversy grew, Park Gyuyoung quickly deleted the photo; however, it had already spread across various online communities and social media, leading to numerous related articles. Subsequently, her agency stated, "We would appreciate it if you could confirm (all the story) through Season 3."

On that day, when asked about the controversy, director Hwang Dong-hyuk noted, "(I was also surprised when I saw the article). I wondered, 'Why did this happen?' But everyone makes mistakes, whether intentionally or not. We can't continue to criticize someone for making a mistake. A mistake is a mistake, and forgiveness is forgiveness," he candidly shared. "We need to let the past be the past and move forward, so I see this as just a happening that we handled well."

"There might be viewers who felt disappointed or upset about feeling spoiled because of that, but I hope you can view it as a small mistake. There are many interesting elements in Season 3 that will not significantly hinder your enjoyment, so after watching, you might feel, 'That wasn't a big deal.' I hope you can understand that well," he said.

In response to the question, "Have you taken any actions to prevent similar incidents from happening again?" he replied, "Legal measures can’t prevent recurrence. They have suffered for a long time after making mistakes. I believe they understand that such incidents should never occur again, so I don’t think extra measures are necessary."

Regarding the matter, Park Gyuyoung, who had not directly addressed it, added, "I know you are curious about the story between No-eul and Kyung-seok, so it would be appreciated if you could watch (Season 3 on Netflix) on the 27th."

Meanwhile, 'Squid Game' Season 3 depicts Gi-hun, who reenters the game with his own motives, losing his closest friend, and the Frontman, who infiltrated the game while hiding his identity, along with the final fates of the participants who survived the brutal games. Season 1 premiered in September 2021, causing a global phenomenon, breaking viewership records, and captivating audiences worldwide. Season 2 was released in December 2024, and now it culminates with the final series finale. It will be released worldwide in over 190 countries through Netflix on the 27th.
