Director Hwang Dong-hyuk of 'Squid Game' Season 3 commented on the cast's spoiler controversy, saying, "Mistakes should be forgiven."

On the morning of the 9th, a production presentation for Netflix's 'Squid Game' Season 3 was held at the Grand Ballroom Hall at Seoul Dragon City in Yongsan, Seoul. Attendees included Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, lead actors Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Yim Siwan, Kang Ha-neul, Wi Ha-jun, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Jo Yuri, Chae Guk-hee, Lee Da-wit, and No Jae-won.

'Squid Game' Season 3 depicts Gi-hun, who returns to participate in the game with his own purpose and loses his closest friend, the Frontman who secretly enters the game while hiding his identity, and the final fate of the participants who survived the brutal games. Season 1 premiered in September 2021, creating a global phenomenon, breaking historic viewership records, and captivating audiences worldwide. Season 2 was released in December 2024, and it will finally conclude with this last series.

Earlier in January, Park Gyu-young was embroiled in a spoiler controversy regarding 'Squid Game' Season 3. She posted a photo on her social media that contained scenes from the filming of 'Squid Game' Season 2. The released photo showed Park Gyu-young enjoying a break while dressed in a pink soldier outfit.

The issue was the identity of another actor sitting behind Park Gyu-young, who, like Park Gyu-young, was dressed in pink guard clothing. Speculation arose that this actor was one of the major actors active in Season 2. After the controversy erupted, Park Gyu-young quickly deleted the photo, but it has already spread through various online communities and social media, generating buzz.

In response, Director Hwang Dong-hyuk remarked, "I was obviously surprised. I asked why this happened... But everyone makes mistakes, whether voluntary or involuntary, so I can’t just keep criticizing someone for making a mistake. A mistake is a mistake, and forgiveness is forgiveness," adding, "We have to let bygones be bygones and move forward, thinking of it as a happening that we can manage."

He continued, "There might have been viewers who felt disappointed or upset due to being spoiled ahead of time. I hope you can regard it as a small mistake, and there are plenty of enjoyable things that won't significantly disrupt your fun, so once you watch it, you might feel like 'that wasn't such a big deal.' I hope you understand well."

The director also stated, "It’s not possible to prevent recurrence through law. They have suffered long after making their mistakes," adding, "They should naturally know that such things must never happen again, so I don’t think it will be necessary to do anything further."

Park Gyu-young, who has not personally apologized, said briefly, "You will be curious about the narrative of No-eul and Kyung-seok, so I hope you will watch on the 27th."

Meanwhile, 'Squid Game' Season 3 will be released worldwide in over 190 countries through Netflix on the 27th.
