After a 5-year hiatus, Shudo-young made a stunning return in the role of Palcheongui and shared an emotional farewell message.
In the final episode of SBS's 'The Haunted Palace' (written by Yoon Soo-jung, directed by Yoon Sung-sik and Kim Ji-yeon) aired on the 7th, Palcheongui (played by Seo Do-young) was eliminated due to Kang Cheol-yi (played by Yook Sung-jae) swallowing Goldamcho and depleting his luminous liquor. Furthermore, during the Cheondojai performed by Yeori (played by Kim Ji-yeon), the original form of Palcheongui, Cheon Geum-hwi, and the souls of the people of Yongdamgol appeared. King Lee Jeong (played by Kim Ji-hoon) wept and apologized, saying, "I will give my all to ensure that no one has the same blood-soaked grudge as you again." Then, Cheon Geum-hwi wept and was guided to ascend to the heavens while saying, "To think you could get so light over just a few words... as if just a few drops of that tear would suffice..."
Meanwhile, Shudo-young successfully made a comeback to drama 5 years later with the role of Palcheongui, which no one expected. In particular, due to Palcheongui's grotesque visual of 2m 40cm, rumors of 'CG' circulated. However, it was revealed that everything was performed by Shudo-young through full transformation makeup, drawing intense attention. Moreover, the tragic story of Palcheongui, who had to become an evil spirit, brought tears to the viewers. Shudo-young perfectly navigated between the extreme characters of the vengeful spirit 'Palcheongui' and the loyal military officer 'General Cheon Geum-hwi,' completing a phenomenal narrative.
Shudo-young stated, "The only reason I could readily agree to take on the role of Palcheongui was because of the tragic narrative of the original form, General Cheon Geum-hwi. For a scene in which I hold my son, who has miraculously come back to life, and battle against the enemy, I went through dozens of action rehearsals and scene modifications for five months, striving to ensure Cheon Geum-hwi's emotional line could resonate with the viewers as much as possible."
Shudo-young continued, "Palcheongui, who had to endure a special makeup that weighed 30kg, and Cheon Geum-hwi, who had to wield a sword while carrying 15kg of weight... everything was an incredibly challenging task. However, it was so important to me. It was a precious character I met after a long hiatus, and I desperately wanted to express that tremendous narrative better than anyone else, so I put all my effort into it. I hope my sincerity was conveyed to the viewers. Thank you very much for the love and support you sent to 'The Haunted Palace' and Palcheongui. I will repay you with performances that can provide profound resonance in the future."
Despite a 5-year absence, expectations are high among fans for Shudo-young's next steps, showcasing no signs of rust with his 'solid acting skills' and still possessing the 'first love middle-aged' visuals.
