A former girlfriend of a male idol was sentenced to probation for blackmailing him using a sexual intercourse video.

According to recent reports from LawTalk News, the 12th Criminal Division of the Seoul Eastern District Court sentenced B, the former partner of idol A, to one year in prison with a two-year probation for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (blackmail using recorded materials) and for property damage.

She was also ordered to take 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures and was additionally restricted from employment for four years at institutions related to children and adolescents and those related to people with disabilities.

According to the verdict, idol A and his former girlfriend B dated for about one year and four months from November 2020 to March 2022. However, after breaking up, B blackmailed A using a video of their sexual intercourse filmed during their relationship.

B is reported to have created a social media account using A's photos and sent A the sexual intercourse video with a message to quit being an idol, and during an argument, she also threw A's mobile phone, causing it to break.

The court noted that the victim likely experienced significant mental distress, but took into account that B admitted to all the charges, showed remorse, reached an agreement with the victim, and that the victim expressed a desire not to pursue charges, which led to the reduction of the sentence.
