The police officer and prosecutor investigator who leaked information about the drug use investigation of actor the late Lee Seon-kyun have ultimately been indicted.

On the 5th, the Incheon District Prosecutor's Office's 6th Criminal Division (Director General Choi Jong-phil) stated that former police officer A and prosecutor investigator B from the Incheon District Prosecutor's Office were indicted without detention on charges of leaking official secrets. Along with this, entertainment reporter C, who received personal information from A and spread it to another reporter, was also indicted for violating the Personal Information Protection Act.

A is accused of photographing a report related to the drug suspicion investigation of Lee Seon-kyun with his mobile phone in October 2023 and sending it to two reporters. This report included the real names, criminal records, occupations, and other information of those involved, including Lee Seon-kyun. The material is known to be an official investigation progress report prepared by the Incheon Police Agency's Drug Crime Investigation Unit, further escalating the situation.

According to the prosecution, B also revealed to a local media reporter twice that Lee Seon-kyun was under investigation for drug allegations. This was immediately reported as an exclusive article titled 'Top Star L is under investigation for drug allegations' in the Oct. 19, 2023, edition.

As a result of this incident, A has currently been dismissed from his position, and B is undergoing disciplinary procedures while being excluded from duty. The prosecution decided not to indict three reporters who received information from A and B, citing that 'profit motives or improper purposes' were not clearly proven.

Lee Seon-kyun was booked on drug use charges on Oct. 14, 2023, and underwent three rounds of questioning. However, he was found dead four days after his last interrogation on Dec. 26 in a vehicle near Waryong Park in Jongno District, Seoul.

In this regard, director Bong Joon-ho and other public cultural artists held a press conference, urging for a thorough investigation into whether there were any security issues with the police from the time the information about the deceased's investigation was first leaked until a drastic decision was made two months later.
