The legendary folk duo Haebaragi (Lee Ju-ho, Lee Kwang-jun) of the Korean music industry has successfully concluded a meaningful special mini-concert.
On the afternoon of 31st last month, the 'Haebaragi Lyrics - You Are My Spring Exhibition' was held at the Insa Art Center in Jongno, Seoul. This exhibition marks the first time in Korean pop music history that a singer's entire lyric-writing life is comprehensively illuminated as Hangul art, making it a significant milestone for both Lee Ju-ho of Haebaragi and the history of Korean popular music.
This exhibition is, for the first time as a national popular singer, a special event highlighting the entirety of one’s lyric-writing career as a work of Hangul art, and it is expected to serve as a meaningful milestone not only for Lee Ju-ho of Haebaragi but also for the history of Korean popular music.
The highlight of the exhibition was Haebaragi's special mini concert. On that day, Haebaragi received applause from the audience for performing hit songs such as 'The One Who Gives Happiness.'
To the younger generation, Haebaragi is an unfamiliar name. Lee Ju-ho began his singing career as a member of the four-member Haebaragi alongside Lee Jung-sun, Han Young-ae, and Kim Young-mi in 1977. After completing his military service in 1983, Lee Ju-ho organized a two-member Haebaragi with Yoo Ik-jong and hit songs such as 'The One Who Gives Happiness' and 'Everyone Is Love' were included in their debut album. After Yoo Ik-jong left the group, new member Lee Kwang-jun joined, and in 1985 they released their second album featuring 'Now I Can Love You' among other tracks.
In 1986, original member Yoo Ik-jong returned to release their third album featuring 'The Jewel Box of My Heart.' As Yoo Ik-jong left the group again, Lee Kwang-jun joined, and they released their fourth album in 1988 with songs such as 'It Won't Just Be Sad' and 'Love Song.' The fifth album, released in 1989, included the hit song 'With Love,' leading to the peak of their success in the 1980s and 1990s.
Lee Ju-ho of Haebaragi started collaborating again with former member Lee Kwang-jun after he returned from the U.S. This January, they appeared on KBS1's 'Morning Yard' to introduce the new song 'You Are My Spring' (written and composed by Lee Si-won). This is the first new song Lee Ju-ho has presented in 12 years since 'Two Flowers of Haebaragi' in 2013.
A company official noted, 'This exhibition features Lee Ju-ho's lyrics for Haebaragi's hit songs such as 'With Love,' 'The One Who Gives Happiness,' and 'You Come Back to Me,' shaping the emotions of Koreans for decades,' and added, 'We plan to meet fans through new song releases and performances, using this special concert as a starting point.'
Meanwhile, Haebaragi is scheduled to release a mini album filled with new songs, including 'You Are My Spring,' at the end of June.
