The band N.Flying has returned as a complete group after about two years. Having completed their military service, N.Flying announced their more mature musical growth through the release of their second studio album. They candidly expressed their feelings of anticipation and excitement during their hiatus and fully revealed their hopes for the new direction ahead.
On Feb. 2, N.Flying conducted an interview to discuss their new album at the FNC Entertainment headquarters in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, to celebrate the release of their second studio album ‘Everlasting’.
Seo Dong-sung said, “Since I completed my service safely, I had no fear. I feel like I can do anything, and my older brothers have worked hard and kept their promises, so I am working hard with the mindset that we will continue together from now on.”
Kim Jae-hyun stated, “After my service, I wanted to make progress instead of falling behind, so I worked hard. The results of that effort are included in this album. I want to grow in terms of skills and in many areas.” Cha Hoon also mentioned, “I know how much the members have waited for us after returning, and I know how long the fans have waited, so I sincerely want to show a wonderful side of myself. I worked hard even before going to the military, but I’ve been putting in even more effort.”
During the time when members Cha Hun, Kim Jae-hyun, and Seo Dong-sung were in military service, Lee Seung-hyub and Yoo Hwe-seung were active as a duo. Lee Seung-hyub expressed, “I was really looking forward to the members coming back. I am happy that the second studio album is out now, and I feel like I’m living a dream.” Yoo Hwe-seung said, “I kept thinking about when they would return, and now that the members are back and we have created something, I am so excited as it has met my expectations. Recently, we also had concerts and meeting the fans at the shows was really energizing.”
Seo Dong-sung, who promised Lee Seung-hyub and Yoo Hwe-seung before enlisting, said, “I promised to meet the fans often and perform in bigger venues after returning. We performed at Olympic Hall right after we returned. The older brothers fulfilled their promise beautifully. I really respected seeing them take responsibility and achieve that.”
When asked about the differences between before and after enlisting, Kim Jae-hyun laughed and said, “The two vocalists seem more relaxed now. There are many ad-libs from Hwe-seung that I haven’t heard before, and Seung-hyub seems to have become more playful. I feel like there’s more interaction with the fans.”
Lee Seung-hyub added, “The members have grown their sense of responsibility towards their instruments and positions, so when one of us makes a mistake, we feel more stressed. Even when we play the same song, there’s a greater concern about whether we can play it differently and better, so I hope the stress doesn’t become overwhelming.”
N.Flying held a solo concert in Seoul last month ahead of the album release, marking the official start of their full group activities. Lee Seung-hyub said, “I was moved to tears during rehearsal. I cried from my heart during the actual performance. We’ve always performed at the same venues since our debut showcase, and I was emotional thinking that we have come to a new venue for our 10th anniversary, and it took us 10 years to sell out all three performances, feeling grateful to continue to be loved and to grow in our 10th year.”
Seo Dong-sung mentioned, “It has been a long time since we returned, and although that wasn’t expressed greatly, inside I felt like I was being reborn and starting anew. It felt like a formal greeting after my discharge. I want to share beautiful music and want to continue to be seen for a long time. I am working hard to keep that promise.”
Kim Jae-hyun, who eventually shed tears at the concert, revealed, “There is a lyric from the song ‘It’s You’ that I really love, and hearing that in Hwe-seung’s voice reminded me of the time from the start of N.Flying until now, flowing by like a movie film, and that made me cry a lot.”
