In the drama 'The Haunted Palace', actor Seo Do-young, revealed as the ghost Palchukwi, shared behind-the-scenes stories during an extraordinary live broadcast to celebrate the 'seal release.'
Previously, on May 30, SBS aired 'The Haunted Palace' (written by Yoon Soo-jung, directed by Yoon Sung-sik and Kim Ji-yeon), where the identity of 'the ultimate ghost,' Palchukwi, was finally unveiled. Palchukwi is Cheon Geum-hwi, a royal guard from 100 years ago, who became a vengeful spirit after sacrificing his family and villagers in order for the king to escape from the enemy. In particular, it was revealed that the actor who played Palchukwi was Seo Do-young, known for his 'eternal first love visual,' stirring excitement among viewers. The model-turned-actor Seo Do-young has been loved consistently as a '20-year veteran actor' with a charming appearance of 186 cm and solid acting skills.
On the same day, immediately after the end of 'The Haunted Palace,' Seo Do-young conducted a live broadcast through his Instagram account. Wearing the Palchukwi mask, Seo Do-young appeared dramatically and shyly said, "I wonder if it’s appropriate to greet you like this at night." He then revealed the challenging process of transforming into Palchukwi, saying, "I had to undergo full-body makeup to depict a ghost of 2.4 meters in height without CGI."
He explained that every time they filmed, four special makeup staff members spent three hours on meticulous work, and he had to endure the weight of armor close to 30 kg. Consequently, he noted, "Even while sitting still, it was common to be out of breath, and I sweat profusely even in the harsh winter with temperatures dropping to -18 degrees Celsius." He also shared that the voice of Palchukwi contributed to the fear factor and was created by himself through various voice dubings. Furthermore, he expressed surprise at people's unusual reactions, saying, "When I transformed into Palchukwi, people were very scared of me and could not recognize it was me."
Meanwhile, during Seo Do-young's live broadcast, fans from around the world, including Japan and Sri Lanka, sent their support and praise for his bold challenge. Lastly, Seo Do-young conveyed a message to viewers, stating, "There is still a great narrative left for Cheon Geum-hwi (Palchukwi), so I hope you look forward to it. Detailed episodes regarding Palchukwi will be released through various channels."
