A renowned music director who has been in charge of the OST production for famous dramas that anyone would recognize, Ms. Kang Eun-hye (pseudonym) achieved both wealth and fame at a young age in her 30s, making her an object of admiration and envy for many. Moreover, Mr. Kang had been selling products sponsored by a broadcasting company to those around her at low prices, which increased her acquaintances' gratitude toward her.
Youngji (pseudonym), who got to know Mr. Kang through an acquaintance six years ago, was also one of those people. Then, in September of last year, Mr. Kang made a very enticing proposal to Youngji. Claiming that an expensive luxury handbag was available at a low price as a sponsored product, she suggested generating revenue through resale. Having needed a large sum of money, Youngji trusted her and invested about 12 million won. However, once the money was deposited, Mr. Kang's attitude began to change little by little.
Mr. Kang claimed there were issues with the sponsor, repeatedly postponing promises and failing to send the items. Feeling uneasy, Youngji shared her experience in an online community and discovered shocking facts. People began to come forward, claiming they had experienced the same situation. The items varied widely, ranging from luxury handbags to expensive electronic products and even children's toys, with the amounts involved also differing greatly. The total amount of money sent to her by victims was around 3 billion won. Mr. Kang, now called a scammer online, had successfully posed as a music director. Why did she engage in such activities? While continuing the investigation into Mr. Kang, the production team received an unexpected response from a representative of the drama production company.
Mr. Kang stated that she was not a drama music director. Moreover, according to the drama production company representative, the idea of buying broadcasting company sponsored products at a cheap price was also absurd. What on earth is going on? In a meeting with Mr. Kang's family, the production team heard an even more astonishing story. Her husband, in-laws, and even her biological parents were victims of the scam.
