'Celebrity Soldier' Lee Chan-won, Jang Doyoun, and Miyeon were in tears.
In the broadcast of KBS2TV 'The Secret of Celebrity Soldiers' on the 27th, the MCs were moved to tears by the story of the late Father Lee Tae-seok, who practiced medicine, education, and missionary work in Tonj, South Sudan.
Father Lee Tae-seok struggled to set up a refrigerator, which was not available in Tonj. Father Kim Sang-yun said, 'The refrigerator runs on electricity, and electricity has to be available 24 hours. I heard it was a situation that could not be managed with Tonj's solar power generation.'
However, Father Lee Tae-seok, after studying electricity, personally constructed the electrical setup on the roof to install the refrigerator. Additionally, Father Lee Tae-seok also made shoes for leprosy patients. Jang Doyoun noted, 'I don't think there has ever been an episode that drew so much admiration.'
Later, another doctor came to serve in Tonj, South Sudan. Family medicine specialist Shin Gyeong-suk discovered specimens that needed to be tested. They were the specimens of Father Lee Tae-seok. Father Lee Tae-seok ultimately took a leave of absence and headed to Korea.
In Korea, Father Lee Tae-seok sent an email to Dr. Shin Gyeong-suk. Miyeon was in tears while reading the email's contents. Father Lee Tae-seok was diagnosed with colon cancer after undergoing a comprehensive examination. At that time, the examiner recalled, 'He was disheartened. He was supposed to go to Sudan in a few days, but he regretted that he couldn't continue the work of digging the well.'
Father Kim Sang-yun recalled, 'He really wanted to go. He thought that if he was there, it might give them strength.'
Ultimately, Father Lee Tae-seok shouted, 'Everything was good,' and passed away the next day, Jan. 14, 2010. The MCs were in tears over the tragic story of Father Lee Tae-seok.
The KBS documentary production team met with the children to present videos for Father Lee Tae-seok, who couldn't say his final goodbyes to the children. The children wept upon hearing the news of Father Lee Tae-seok's death.
The KBS documentary production team packed Father Lee Tae-seok's final belongings. Lee Chan-won, upon seeing this, expressed, 'It's too minimal.' Father Kim Sang-yun said, 'I know why he wanted to return to Tonj so much. He had plans and wanted to show a bigger world to the brass band children.'
