The movie 'Big Deal' (distributed by SHOWBOX, produced by The Lamp) will be released on May 30 (Friday), offering refreshing and fun entertainment, and has unveiled production behind-the-scenes completed by the best production team.
'Big Deal' has unveiled production behind-the-scenes showcasing the detailed efforts of the best production team to enhance the film's reality, raising expectations. 'Big Deal' is a story about Jong-rok, the financial director of a soju company, who is facing a life that is all about soju, and In-beom, a global investment company employee only pursuing results, as they wager the fate of soju for the people of South Korea during the 1997 IMF financial crisis.
First, Kim Sung-an, the cinematographer who has worked on various projects such as 'Perfect Strangers', 'Pilot', and 'Escape', distinguished camera movements based on the characteristics of each character, capturing the emotions and changes in relationships in detail. Kim Sung-an, noted that the various drinking scenes were filmed with a focus on the characters' emotions rather than using special techniques, saying, “I tried to capture the emotions of Jong-rok and In-beom as much as possible. It would be interesting to pay attention to these changes as the expressions of the actors drinking change slightly according to the character's emotions.” Additionally, lighting director Lee Seung-bin, who enriched the atmosphere of the play in works such as 'A Taxi Driver', 'The Man Standing Next', and 'Escape', stated, “In fact, shooting soju bottles and glasses is very tricky. We conducted lighting work, considering the spatial and situational aspects, to ensure that the actors' appearances were the focus and didn’t appear overly three-dimensional.” This effort by the lighting team resulted in a suitable lighting that highlights the emotions of the actors, vividly portraying the drinking scenes of Jong-rok and In-beom.
Moreover, Kim Bo-mi, the art director who has enhanced immersion in various works like 'The Day of the National Bankruptcy' and 'Escape', noted that she worked to ensure that 'Big Deal' did not look like a realistic period drama or a true story. Kim Bo-mi also mentioned that she wanted to present the crisis-ridden Seoul of 1997 through Jong-rok and In-beom in a different way. She created spaces for the character Jong-rok, who has human charm, using warm-toned colors, while for In-beom, who has a cold demeanor, she used low-saturation or achromatic cold colors to emphasize his character, aiming to further enhance the audience's immersion.
The passion of the production team can also be seen in the design of the Tapsoju, which plays an important role in the work. Tapsoju, created in collaboration with Bohae Brewery using a new recipe, was designed to reflect its dual meaning as the number one soju of national treasure soju, as well as soju made from ingredients layered like a tower. Since Tapsoju is an actual product released and sold in convenience stores mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area, it not only adds visual enjoyment but also enhances the fun of the audience experiencing the movie beyond the screen.
'Big Deal', completed with detailed production and set to provide refreshing and fun entertainment this summer, will be available in theaters nationwide on May 30 (Friday).
