Interpreter Park Ji-won revealed the advice of her parents, who wanted her to become the Chief Justice.
On the broadcast aired on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' on the 28th, participants included Cha Min-a, a nurse working at a hospital in Saudi Arabia, webtoon artist Eom Yu-jin, Park Ji-won who sought a new dream after being a lawyer with a high salary, and Kim Joon-young and Sa Gong-hye-ran, a couple who embraced five twins through natural conception.
Park Ji-won attracted attention as she sought her true dream after being a lawyer with a high salary. She was the protagonist who passed the bar exam at the youngest age of 20 and ranked 5th out of 500 successful candidates, known as a study genius. She never dropped out of the top of her class and entered Seoul National University’s Business Administration program, gaining attention by passing the bar exam as well.
Park Ji-won noted that she suffered from atopy and binge eating disorder before the bar exam, saying, "I endured the exam life while going through that. Looking back now, it seems like I had depression. I had no extra time to take care of myself, and the anxiety and pressure of 'What if I fail the exam?' was tremendous. I suffered for a year, but no one knew if I would pass or fail the exam. Even in such a situation, it was a time of hardship until I managed to keep my mentality and fill my study hours to pass the exam."
She added, "Every day I cried, and right before the first phase of the exam, I studied at my grandmother's house with the mindset of going to a temple. It was in an APT. over 10 floors, and I looked down every day, wondering, 'What would happen if I jumped?' I wasn't in my right mind due to mental illness and obsession. Every time I looked outside while crying, my grandmother was very worried, thinking I might die or jump off. She said, 'If you have your first child, don't have a second. After having a second child, she said not to have a third.' At those times, I wanted to get married and have babies so badly. I thought I should live my life fun and show it to them."
Eventually, after 1 year and 4 months, she passed the bar exam and ranked 5th out of 500 successful candidates. She entered the country's largest law firm and worked as a lawyer, living fiercely for 8 years. However, feeling a sense of disillusionment, she submitted her resignation after 8 years and decided to become an interpreter.
"What was your parents' reaction when you left the law firm?" in response to the question, she said, "Of course, they were not pleased and thought being a lawyer was more socially recognized. They wondered, 'Why would you do that?' and were not supportive of me getting married or having children. I think they believed that if I wanted to become the Chief Justice, marriage and motherhood would hinder my career. They disliked anything that could obstruct my path to becoming Chief Justice."
Moreover, Park Ji-won added, "They said, 'If you have your first child, don’t have a second. After having a second, don't have a third.' Every time they said that, I wanted to get married and have a baby so much. I thought I should live my life in a fun way and show that to them."
