The unfortunate news of actor Choi Jung-woo's passing has been reported, and interest in his acting career and family life is growing.
The late Choi Jung-woo, born in 1957, debuted as a mid-level actor in 1975 with the play 'The Life of an Actor.' With nearly 50 years of experience in acting, he has built a solid filmography, transversing both television and film.
In his early days, he also worked as a voice actor for Tongyang Broadcasting, broadening his acting spectrum. He later appeared in films such as 'Two Cops,' 'Indian Summer,' 'Public Enemy 2,' 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance,' 'Brothers,' 'The Witch,' 'Unofficial Operation,' and 'The Moon,' demonstrating his unique presence.
His performances continued in dramas. He left a strong impression in numerous works, including 'Love to Death,' 'Strongest Chil-woo,' 'The Painter of the Wind,' 'Brilliant Legacy,' 'Sign,' 'Tree with Deep Roots,' 'Chief of Staff Season 2,' 'Say It Is Love,' 'The Tale of Lady Ok,' and 'Miss Granny.'
Although Choi Jung-woo was not a prolific actor, his acting ability left a deep impression on many whenever he appeared. Based on his unique mature image, he played various professional roles, such as conglomerate chairperson, prosecutor, police officer, National Intelligence Service executive, and middle-aged director general at a large corporation. In his recent works 'The Moon' and 'Unofficial Operation,' he also showcased his presence, making a mark on the audience and viewers.
Meanwhile, following the news of his passing, an episode of MBN's 'Sokpuri Show Dongchimi' from last October has been reexamined. Choi Jung-woo revealed his family history on that broadcast. He was not someone who often appeared on variety shows and confessed that he had registered his marriage three times, saying, "I think people who looked at me positively might now view me negatively, so I'm disclosing it for the first time. I rushed into marriage in my 30s. Honestly, I didn't want to. I made a lot of money from the play 'Please Turn Off the Fire' after the divorce," he said regarding his first marriage and divorce. He also explained, "In my 50s, as I started appearing on TV, I met a woman who had a child. She said we couldn't register our marriage. She suggested we do it in the third year of our marriage. During the toughest times, my wife was in America. It was then that I developed diabetes. I told her, 'This disease is because of you. Divorce.' She did not say a word and just divorced. She said she would give up all the property. I became a beggar."
Choi Jung-woo spoke about his third marriage, stating, “I met the best wife. We dated for about four years. She was a Korean Japanese employee at a new company. She had a personality disorder related to nagging. She had anger management issues. She also had ADHD. She is 11 years younger than me. It was her first marriage. When she got angry, she called me 'old man.'"
