"He was my father, and he still is."
A revelation has emerged that legendary rock band Queen's frontman Freddie Mercury had a hidden daughter. Through Mercury's new biography, "Love, Freddie," a secret that has been thoroughly concealed for over 30 years has come to light.
British media outlets Daily Mail and The Guardian reported on the 23rd (local time), citing the upcoming biography "Love, Freddie," that "Mercury had a daughter, 'B,' in 1976 during his prime with a friend's wife." This fact was known only to a select few, including Mercury's lover and inheritor Mary Austin, his parents, and his sister.
Lesley-Ann Jones, who authored the book, met B three years ago to confirm her existence. B is currently working as a medical professional in Europe, and her identity remains confidential. She claims that Mercury met with her regularly until his death and validated her status as Mercury's daughter through personal letters and 17 diaries he provided.
B recalled in a letter, "My father loved me very much and was dedicated. It may be a special birth to the world's standards, but our relationship was sincere,” adding, “My father valued me as a precious being. He was a very practical and devoted father behind the glamorous stage."
Jones emphasized, "At first, I doubted her, but she was certainly not a fantasist. She neither wanted money nor pursued fame. Her demeanor and evidence spoke only of the truth."
Mercury did not directly intervene in B's upbringing, but it is reported that he maintained rooms in both the home of the mother and his own to keep in touch consistently. The mother, a Catholic, refused to have an abortion, and the child grew up with her biological mother and her husband, B's stepfather. Mercury reportedly contacted B daily even while on tour, and B knew from a young age that Mercury was her biological father.
This fact could also impact Mercury's inheritance issues. Although he bequeathed most of his assets to Mary Austin through a will while alive, there could be changes in the inheritance structure if B is legally recognized as a biological child. Mercury's estate is estimated to be worth over 50 billion won, including the Kensington mansion in London, music copyrights, and artworks.
Meanwhile, Freddie Mercury, known for numerous hit songs such as "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Killer Queen," and "Don't Stop Me Now," was a symbolic figure of Queen and passed away in 1991 due to AIDS complications. He was known during his life as bisexual and garnered public affection through his complex private life and dazzling performances on stage.
His daughter B stated, "I still want to live an anonymous life," adding, "No one needs to know who I am," but this quiet revelation has sent shockwaves and ripples among Queen fans worldwide.
