Actor and restaurant CEO Lee Jang-woo has started a full-fledged mukbang YouTube channel amid criticism for his excessive tension.
On the 23rd, a video titled "Sinchon mukbang delivery by Lee Jang-woo" was uploaded to the YouTube channel "(Fat) Uncle."
"(Fat) Uncle" is a newly launched mukbang channel by Lee Jang-woo, stating, "Lee Jang-woo eats and delivers to subscribers. Someday, the fat (weight loss) uncle Lee Jang-woo."
Making his first appearance, Lee Jang-woo asked, "Is this how you do it without a mic?" and laughed while saying, "If you broadcast raw, can you just do it half as much?" He was the only person in his 40s among the production team in their 20s and 30s.
Upon hearing the channel name, Lee Jang-woo expressed regret, saying, "I am now becoming an uncle," as his title changed from brother to uncle, while the production team emphasized the prefix "fat" instead of "uncle." Feeling dejected, Lee Jang-woo declared, "I will lose weight. I will show you who I am," eliciting laughter. In response, the producer stated, "If Lee Jang-woo loses weight, we will name the channel 'Slim Uncle.'"
Lee Jang-woo is a member of the popular MBC entertainment show "I Live Alone" and has gained popularity for his remarkable cooking skills in mukbangs. He formed a palm oil line with Jun Hyun-moo and Park Na-rae, traveling not only domestically but also abroad for mukbang expeditions. Currently, in addition to his acting career, he is expanding his area as a restaurant CEO while maintaining his signature mukbang image, operating udon, soup, and curry specialty restaurants. Recently, a walnut pastry he participated in planning and product development became a nationwide sensation.
Though Lee Jang-woo has shown a lot of cooking content on "I Live Alone" and various web entertainment shows, he drew even more attention by launching a professional mukbang channel, "(Fat) Uncle."
On that day, Lee Jang-woo met with the production team at a restaurant located in Sinchon, Seoul, and tasted the representative menu, gochujang jjigae (spicy chili paste stew) and hamjitang (pork bone soup).
As soon as he took a bite, he scanned the camera positions and showcased exaggerated reactions, prompting the producer to note, "That's a bit excessive tension."
Lee Jang-woo expressed his frustration, saying, "I often hear that I have excessive tension, and I want to say something to those who criticize me for it. Food should be eaten like this. If one person eats well, everyone around them enjoys it. That's why someone like me is necessary. If I eat deliciously, everything will taste good!"
He continued, "That's why I create excessive tension," and added, "When people eat with me, everyone eats deliciously, so I can't not do this. But really, it tastes great," bringing laughter.
