The grand prize of the 'Climate and Environment Award' co-hosted by SBS and the Ministry of Environment went to Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do.

At the awards ceremony for the '15th SBS Climate and Environment Award 2025' held on the 23rd at the SBS Prism Tower in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, Haenam-gun (Mayor Myung-Hwan Myung) was awarded the grand prize.

SBS and the Ministry of Environment noted, "We recognized Haenam-gun as the grand prize winner for successfully implementing field-oriented resource circulation policies, such as replacing over 2.6 million Styrofoam buoys with eco-friendly certified buoys."

Visit Shin, President of SBS, said, "SBS has discovered and encouraged those dedicated to the environment through the environmental documentaries 'Water is Life' and the 'SBS Water Environment Award.' This year, we have expanded and reorganized the awards ceremony to a 'Climate and Environment Award' to look at ecological destruction and natural disaster issues caused by climate change from a broader perspective."

Accordingly, this year the awards ceremony was conducted across four institutional sectors, encompassing climate change, water management, resource circulation, and nature conservation.

Minister Kim Wan-seop said, "Let us use today’s awards ceremony as a stepping stone to start our changes and actions based on the awareness and responsibility that we are all victims and contributors to the climate crisis."

The chairman of the judging panel for the '15th SBS Climate and Environment Award 2025' was Professor Cho Hong-sik from Seoul National University Law School, who selected the awardees after going through primary document screening, secondary field inspection, and final judging based on public interest, activity, and sustainability.

Haenam-gun was awarded the grand prize for proactively promoting effective policies to solve marine waste. In the institutional sectors, the winners were ▲Jeju Participatory Environmental Coalition in the climate change sector, ▲GroWith in the water management sector, ▲Haenam-gun in the resource circulation sector, and ▲Hot Pink Dolphins in the nature conservation sector.

At the event, Minister Kim Wan-seop, President Visit Shin of SBS, President Yoon Seok-dae of the Korea Water Resources Corporation, and Chairman Lim Sang-jun of the Korea Environment Corporation attended as presenters to encourage the awardees and present the awards.
