MBC has decided to re-sign contracts with A and three others mentioned as the main perpetrators concerning the workplace bullying allegations against the late Oh Yoanna.

MBC recently terminated its contract with weathercaster A. A is one of the individuals identified as a perpetrator of workplace bullying against the late Oh Yoanna.

However, MBC has proceeded with re-signing contracts with the other three. In this regard, on the 22nd, MBC noted to OSEN that "we have re-signed contracts with three other weathercasters excluding weathercaster A" and added, "Although a formal document regarding the results of the special labor supervision from the Ministry of Employment and Labor has not yet arrived, we have taken action on areas where there are no significant opinions based on the related parts."

The contracts for the weathercasters were originally supposed to be conducted by the end of last year. However, due to the controversy over workplace bullying surrounding the death of the late Oh Yoanna, the contracts were delayed. Consequently, after waiting for the results of the special labor supervision from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, MBC decided to terminate the contract with one individual and to re-sign with three. It was judged that there was no basis to consider the three individuals as perpetrators. Their contract period extends until December of this year.

The deceased passed away last September at the age of 28. Although the exact cause was not disclosed at the time, handwritten notes expressing grievances over workplace bullying, diary entries, recorded conversations, and KakaoTalk chat messages were later found on the deceased's mobile phone, bringing the case to light.

In response, the Ministry of Employment and Labor conducted special labor supervision of MBC over the past three months and concluded that while the late Oh Yoanna does not fall under the category of a worker according to labor laws, there were acts that could be perceived as bullying.

The reason for not viewing the weathercasters as employees is said to be due to the nature of the job, as they are not tied exclusively to one broadcasting station and can work in various places, with some even signing contracts with entertainment agencies.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Employment and Labor does not address bullying if it determines an individual is not an employee, but regarding the incident involving the deceased, it made an unusual judgment considering the seriousness of the matter and public interest, stating that there were indications of bullying.

Regarding the results, MBC stated, "We take the judgment of the Ministry of Employment and Labor that there were acts of bullying against the late Oh Yoanna very seriously" and added, "We will take action regarding those involved and improve the overall organizational culture."

It continued, "We will establish a 'Director of Cooperative Relations' to enable immediate reporting and resolution of issues arising between freelancers and non-regular workers by the parties involved and third parties" and stated, "We will conduct legal reviews regarding the determination of employee status for some freelancers and will implement appropriate measures in a timely manner."
