Disney+ reacted cautiously to a question about 'Knock-Off,' starring Kim Soo-hyun.
On the morning of the 23rd, an event called 'Disney+ Open House' was held on the 7th floor of the Gangnam Finance Center in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul (headquarters of the Walt Disney Company Korea). Attendees included Choi Yeon-woo, head of local content at the Walt Disney Company Korea, Kim Won-guk, CEO of the new original series 'Made in Korea,' and Yu Jeong-hoon, CEO of 'Shopping Mall of Killers.'
This year, 2025, Disney+ plans to captivate subscribers worldwide with a solid lineup. Starting with 'Trigger,' starring Kim Hye-soo, which opened the season in January, the first half of the year will showcase medical thriller 'Hyper Knife,' starring Sul Kyung-gu and Park Eun-bin, and the new work 'Nine Puzzles,' featuring Kim Da-mi and Son Suk-ku. In the second half of the year, titles such as 'Low Life,' starring Ryu Seung-ryong, Yang Se-jong, and Lim Soo-jung, 'Polaris,' featuring Jun Ji-hyun and Gang Dong-won, 'The Murky Stream,' starring Rowoon and Shin Ye-eun, and 'The Manipulated,' featuring Ji Chang-wook and Doh Kyung Soo, are anticipated.
However, 'Knock-Off,' starring Kim Soo-hyun, which was scheduled for an April release in the first half of the year, has been halted due to controversy over the lead actor's personal life, and the release date has been indefinitely postponed. While filming 'Knock-Off,' an issue regarding Kim Soo-hyun's past relationship with his ex-girlfriend, the late Kim Sae-ron, arose, leading Disney+ to note, "After careful consideration, we have decided to suspend the release plan." With all schedules for the 600 billion won 'Knock-Off' now canceled, some predict that Kim Soo-hyun's penalty could range from 18 billion won, which is double his appearance fee, to a maximum of 180 billion won, three times the total production cost. However, industry insiders claim that the actual penalty Kim Soo-hyun has to pay may differ from public expectations.
At the event, questions arose regarding Kim Soo-hyun's performance in 'Knock-Off,' and Choi Yeon-woo commented, "It was suspended after careful consideration by Disney. That is still the official position of Disney+" and added, "I hope you understand that it is difficult to provide answers beyond that." Another official also stated, "There have been no additional updates since the official position."
Regarding the penalty of 180 billion won, Choi Yeon-woo remarked, "I think it will be the same as my previous answer" and avoided direct explanations without providing further comments.
