Judge Jung Hyun-sook revealed shocking divorce cases and infidelity incidents, presenting the reality of family courts.
In the episode broadcasted on the 21st on tvN's "You Quiz on the Block," Director General of Seoul Family Court Jung Hyun-sook grants, sharing her experiences and behind-the-scenes stories as a judge who has handled numerous divorce cases. On this day, Judge Jung vividly shared from the expression "divorce officiant" to interesting episodes, capturing the audience's attention.
Judge Jung said, "Among family court judges, 'divorce officiant' is a commonly used expression," and explained, "It is a procedure to confirm whether the agreement is indeed correct when a couple comes in for mutual divorce and to officially confirm that the marital relationship has ended."
He also noted, "When couples come in for divorce, instead of calling them 'plaintiff' and 'defendant,' I address them by their names and inform them, 'From this moment on, your marital relationship is terminated.'"
In particular, it has become more common for parents to accompany couples recently. Judge Jung stated, "While the couple remains quiet, parents often end up fighting among themselves," adding, "Sometimes, parents escalate the conflict, so there are times when we advise them not to come." He remarked, "It is unfortunate that there are young couples divorcing due to conflicts or interference between parents."
Judge Jung revealed that the number of couples maintaining common-law relationships without registering their marriages has increased, leading to a noticeable rise in lawsuits related to common-law marriages. "There are about 50 divorce lawsuits and roughly 150 mutual divorces happening every day," he expressed, revealing the reality of family courts, which generated surprise.
The episode also featured shocking infidelity cases, causing a stir in the studio. Judge Jung reported, "A father-in-law witnessed his son and daughter-in-law having an inappropriate relationship, but only left words like 'clean it up quickly' and exited the scene." However, the twist of this incident did not end there; it was revealed that the daughter-in-law also had a relationship with her father-in-law.
Judge Jung said, "In the end, the husband, upon discovering this fact, was shocked, and the wife left the house, leaving the children behind." Hosts Yoo Jae-suk and Cho Sae-ho appeared stunned and could not hide their shock at the story.
