Actress Sunwoo Yongyeo shared her changed mindset after battling a cerebral infarction.
On the 21st, a video titled "81-year-old Sunwoo Yongyeo's morning routine that changes your life if you follow it (secrets to youth, give it a try once)" was uploaded to Sunwoo Yongyeo's YouTube channel.
On that day, Sunwoo Yongyeo revealed her morning routine for a day when she does not eat a buffet breakfast. After washing her face, she did her skincare while music was playing. Sunwoo Yongyeo said, "I use something a bit expensive. I'm sorry. Because it suits my face." She continued, "When I get older, I'll get wrinkles in my ears. So, I make sure to apply this here too. It would be better to start applying it from a young age. Wrinkles appear here, right? But I don't have any, do I? It's because I take good care of myself," she joked.
She added, "Next is sunscreen. You have to apply it like this. If I play music while I apply it, my body says, 'Hey, you played music. Alright, I understand, I'll help you not to be sick.' But you shouldn't play sad songs in the morning. You should enjoy your body as much as you can. Isn't it life and death? You get sick and die while living, so we need to live well and healthy before we die."
After doing some stretching, Sunwoo Yongyeo continued to move her body frequently while preparing breakfast. She said, "You need to keep moving your body. It sounds crazy, but what can you do? You have to shake it. There is no illness. The left side doesn't work well because of the cerebral infarction, so I go to the gym, and older people should strengthen their muscles. The reason older people get wrinkles is that they lose muscle."
In particular, while eating cocoa with Manuka honey, Sunwoo Yongyeo emphasized, "If possible, eat good things. Don't skimp on what goes into your mouth. If you keep taking care of yourself from a young age, you'll be healthy when you get older."
The production crew asked, "Didn't you suddenly have trouble lifting your arm during the recording?" about her cerebral infarction, and Sunwoo Yongyeo recalled, "It was in August, and I had to go for the recording, but it was a bit hot. Since it was summer, I thought it was hot and went. While the recording was going on, I tend to speak quickly. But when I tried to overlap, I couldn't find the words. Kim Kyung-ran was the MC then. She said, 'Wait a minute, what's wrong, Teacher?' So I said, 'I can't speak well.'"
She continued, "At that time, there were doctors present. It was a health program. The doctors asked me to raise my hand. But my left arm wouldn’t lift. They advised me to go to the hospital quickly. I tried to act tough and said, 'Okay, after the recording,' but they insisted I go quickly. So, I took a ride to the hospital. While I was there, the writer of 'Sunwoo Yongyeo' was very attentive. She said, 'She's a good girl,'" and mentioned, "I was admitted for about 20 days."
She added, "The important thing is that being in a special room, nurses come in all the time. But the nurses in the special room come dressed nicely. They check blood pressure and leave," depicting the chic appearance of the nurses. She said, "Then the doctors come in. They ask, 'How do you feel today?' What kind of feelings can I have? I feel like I’m dying in pain. After about two weeks, when the doctors all came in, I said, 'Forget about how I feel, I'm a patient. There are many patients, so take me to the intensive care unit.' It's a four-person room. When I got there, there were nurses who I really liked."
Sunwoo Yongyeo remarked, "They said let's go to the physical therapy room. When I got to the physical therapy room, I suddenly realized. There were so many people in pain. They were all treating themselves, desperately wishing to live, and seeing those patients made me realize I had been living carelessly. At that moment, it hit me hard. No, I have to get up. Until now, I hadn’t thought of my struggles, but as the eldest daughter-in-law of eight siblings, I did my best, and even though I used my husband's 17.5 million won to pay off bills, it still wasn't enough, so I have to earn money. I had no friends until my husband passed away. I never met my classmates; I just walked around with broadcasters and didn’t know anything else about home. But that moment hit me hard," she said with tears in her eyes.
She said, "After getting discharged, I thought that from then on, I have to live for myself. My body is so precious, yet I treated it so carelessly. I felt pity for myself. So from that point on, I started going to hotels for food."
