'Seo Jang-hoon's neighbor millionaire' Millanonna confessed her salary 30 years ago.

On the 21st, EBS and E Channel co-produced 'Seo Jang-hoon's neighbor millionaire' (herein referred to as 'neighbor millionaire'), where 'the hippest grandmother in South Korea' Millanonna Jang Myung-sook grants.

That day, Millanonna revealed, “It’s been 16 years. I live with my husband. The simplest and most modest way is my life concept.”

While touring the house, Seo Jang-hoon remarked, “It feels very neat and sophisticated,” and asked, “Did you always have the dream of building a house and living in such a quiet place?” Millanonna responded, “This is not my dream; it is my husband's dream. My husband is in industrial design. He said we should live simply and modestly whenever possible.”

In a subsequent interview, Millanonna noted, “When I was young, I traveled a lot in luxurious places. I don’t really like environments that intimidate people. I prefer being the protagonist. So as I grow older, I just need modesty and a dust-free space. I believe that being organized and clean is the most luxurious of all.”

Meanwhile, Millanonna mentioned Valentino Garavani as a role model, expressing her surprise at the fact that Jacqueline Onassis chose an Italian designer for her wedding dress when she married the Greek shipping magnate in 1968, revealing this as the reason she went to study in Italy.

Thus, becoming the first Korean student of design to study in Milan, Millanonna recounted, “I went to Taiwan from Korea, to Bangkok from Taiwan, to the Middle East from Bangkok, and finally arrived in Rome,” astonishing everyone by stating that it took her 36 hours of transfer time to reach Italy.

Listening quietly, Seo Jang-hoon inquired, “I heard you got married to study abroad.” Millanonna explained, “My father was conservative. He said a woman can't study abroad alone and that he didn’t want a foreign son-in-law. So he said he would let me study abroad if I got married. That was 50 years ago, so the societal paradigm at that time is hard to imagine now.”

After getting married, Millanonna embarked on her journey to study abroad and finally entered the Milano she had long dreamed of. Enrolling in a prestigious fashion school, she recalled, “I always carried a recorder with me, and I studied hard by repeatedly listening to it when I got home.”

Notably, she revealed that she was in the same class as Dolce from Dolce & Gabbana, sharing, “The year I had my second child, that friend had a debut show. I wasn't feeling great at that time.”

She continued, “My dream was to study abroad and become a designer with my own boutique,” but underscored, “I don't regret it at all now. I’ve lived a much richer life, gotten married, had two sons, and experienced a variety of lives.”

Seo Jang-hoon expressed admiration, stating, “Studying abroad in Italy at that time must have taken a lot of courage.” Millanonna replied, “It was a path I had never taken before, but I created a path by taking a step forward.”

Upon returning to Korea, Millanonna actively engaged in various activities, including university lectures, consulting for the National Theater and National Gugak Center costume design, advising large fashion companies, and consulting for luxury brand launches. She remarked about her experience, “I didn’t have to go looking for work; jobs came to me.”

Then Jonathan bluntly asked, “You were the top designer at that time, and a luxury buyer; what was your salary then?” Millanonna replied, “Why are you asking about my salary from 30 years ago? There weren't many high salaries back then,” confessing that she earned a salary in the hundreds of millions. Seo Jang-hoon explained, “To give you an idea, the signing bonus for our country's top athletes at that time was around 100 million won. That’s a very high salary.”
