On the 20th (Tuesday), Bae Doona from the Coupang Play series "Family Plan" received the Best Actress award at the 23rd Directors Cut Awards. This award is considered a significant achievement not only for Bae Doona's profound acting skills but also for recognizing the creativity and artistry of Coupang Play original content.
"Family Plan" (Creator: Kim Jung-min | Directors: Kim Gok, Kim Sun | Grants: Bae Doona, Ryu Seung-beom, Baek Yoon-sik, Roman, Lee Soo-hyun | Provided by: Coupang Play | Produced by: KeyEast, Ordinary Gem, Monster Union, Borderless Film) tells the story of a mother with a special ability to edit memories at will, who teams up with her family to bring hell to the villains.
Bae Doona, who won the Best Actress award, portrayed the character "Han Young-soo," a mother who struggles to express emotions but shows kindness only to her children. She drew viewers into the story through her brain-hacking ability to dominate memories, leading the tension of the work and receiving praise for her compelling depiction of the balance between emotion and reason, maternal love, and retribution, earning her accolades for a stellar performance.
Bae Doona said, "I am so honored to receive the Best Actress award at the Directors Cut Awards, and it feels even more valuable since it is awarded by film directors," adding, "Thank you for loving 'Family Plan,' and I will strive to be an actor who never loses humility, no matter where I am."
This award is particularly meaningful as it acknowledges the overall quality of the work alongside the actor's performance, following the global recognition of "Family Plan." In April, "Family Plan" was the only Korean work invited to the international panorama competition at the "2025 Series Mania Festival," the largest series festival in Europe, successfully premiering in Europe. At that time, local media and audiences praised it as "a masterpiece that unravels the complex relationships of modern families through black comedy" and "a work that cleverly shakes the contradictions between the characters' surfaces and interiors, keeping the tension until the end."
Ahn Hye-yeon, Executive Director of Coupang Play Original Productions, noted, "The Directors Cut Awards is a prestigious ceremony directly selected by renowned directors, making this award for 'Family Plan' even more honorable," adding, "We will continue to elevate the standards of original content through experimental and high-quality series in various genres."
Coupang Play is recognized for its content competitiveness, consistently achieving success at major domestic and international awards through diverse original content, including "Youth Era" and "SNL Korea," in addition to "Family Plan."
