Former announcer Baek Ji-yeon, who is now related to the "Hyundai family," is responding to 18 years of love calls and is set to appear in a variety show.

Baek Ji-yeon, a former announcer for MBC, will grant her career and life story during the variety show MBC "Radio Star," which airs this afternoon (21st).

After accepting the production team's love call after 18 years and appearing on "Radio Star," Baek Ji-yeon revealed, "(After getting married) my son in the United States usually enjoys watching 'Radio Star'" as the reason for her decision to appear. This marks her first return to a variety show in 18 years since 2007.

Earlier, Baek Ji-yeon's only son, Kang In-chan, got married to Jeong Ji-soo, the daughter of HL Group Chairman Jeong Mong-won, at a church in Jongno-gu, Seoul, in June 2023. Chairman Jeong Mong-won is the second son of the late honorary chairman Jeong In-young, the founder of HL Group, and has served as CEO of Halla Engineering & Construction, Mando Machinery, and others, having assumed the role of group head in 1996. He is particularly well-known as the nephew of the late Hyundai Group Chairman Chung Ju-yung.

Last October, Baek Ji-yeon mentioned the daughter-in-law of the Hyundai family during MBC's "People Who Move the Heart."

Doctor Oh Eun-young asked, "Wasn't there a joyous occasion with your son last year?" and Baek Ji-yeon responded, "I didn't expect my son to get married so quickly; it was a happy day," adding, "When I first met my daughter-in-law, my heart was racing. I was more nervous than during a live broadcast. The moment I opened the door, I burst into tears," recalling that moment.

She continued, "I was surprised when I suddenly started crying. When raising my son, I always prayed, but I don't know what it was; I said, 'Please bless that child (daughter-in-law) who must be growing somewhere.' After seeing my future daughter-in-law's face, I thought, 'So you are that child,' and tears flowed. I'm confessing this now."

Having gained a daughter-in-law from the Hyundai family, Baek Ji-yeon recently enjoyed cultural activities by watching the play "Hedda Gabler," starring Lee Young-ae, along with former KBS announcer and daughter-in-law Noh Hyun-jung, actress Kim Jung-eun, and Baek Ji-won. Their photos garnered attention on the internet.

As Baek Ji-yeon, who has not been easily seen in variety shows, makes her appearance on "Radio Star" after 18 years, various episodes involving her new daughter-in-law and the Hyundai family are eagerly anticipated.

Meanwhile, Baek Ji-yeon passed the MBC 15th recruitment exam for announcers in 1987 and holds the titles of the "first woman, youngest, and longest-serving" anchor of MBC's "News Desk." She set an unprecedented hosting record of 8 years and 3 months.

She was also the person who witnessed the legendary incident "Listening Device in My Ear" during a live news broadcast and vividly recounts the events surrounding this unprecedented broadcasting accident. Additionally, she shares the legendary story of working on a live news broadcast while 9 months pregnant.

Baek Ji-yeon gained attention by meeting global stars such as Hugh Jackman, Jessica Alba, Wong Kar-wai, and Tilda Swinton on her interview program titled "Baek Ji-yeon’s People Inside." Additionally, she will reveal the behind-the-scenes story of a communication consulting company she started at the suggestion of a global consulting firm after leaving MBC, conducting strategic consulting for prominent figures in South Korea.
