The director of 'Guitar Man' reminisced about his time with Kim Sae-ron.
On the 21st, a press screening and media conference for Kim Sae-ron's final film 'Guitar Man' was held at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul.
'Guitar Man' is a music film that portrays the loss, love, and journey of a genius guitarist who seeks hope through music amidst a harsh reality. The tragic story of the late actor Kim Sae-ron, who played 'Yujin,' has captured significant public attention.
That day, the director recalled Kim Sae-ron's presence on set. He noted, "At that time, it was when Sae-ron was going through the toughest period. She talked about her struggles while eating with me, although she didn't do it outright."
He added, "Sae-ron was mostly in the car. It must have been claustrophobic. She spent hours trying to avoid people in a compact car. But the interesting thing was, she completely transformed when she stood in front of the camera. I truly realized how talented she was as an actress. She hardly had any NGs (No Good takes) even in such situations. When it came to acting, she was a professional."
Furthermore, he said, "While acting, of course, being human, she had some trouble with me as well. However, despite that discomfort, she was more affectionate than anyone else when acting. I felt that 'this person is destined to be an actress. She will become even greater.'" He also mentioned, "She shared various personal pains and frustrations, but it feels a bit inappropriate to discuss her private life. It's true that she was struggling, but she seemed very excited when acting."
Additionally, the director lamented, "If you watch the film, there’s a scene where her voice is hoarse. I don't know what happened the day before, but she came with a very hoarse voice. The actress wanted to handle it with post-production recording. I said, 'Let's make it comfortable, if that’s the case.' She couldn't carry on until then."
He expressed regret, saying, "However, there’s a song titled 'Dugeundugeun' during the scene where she starts the band again. Originally, we planned for her to sing together, and we even rehearsed the vocals. I feel saddened that we couldn't get to that point together."
Meanwhile, the film 'Guitar Man' is set to be released on the 30th.
