Actor Lee Jae-wook is making a new mark in historical action.

Lee Jae-wook captured global audiences instantly with his role as Hongrang in the Netflix series "Dear Hongrang" (written by Kim Jin-ah, directed by Kim Hong-sun) released on the 16th.

"Dear Hongrang" is a mystery melodrama depicting the return of Hongrang, the son of the largest merchant group in Joseon, who comes back after 12 years with no memories, while his half-sister Jae-i doubts his identity, creating an unknown emotion between them. The series has maintained a top ranking on Netflix since its release, drawing popularity.

Lee Jae-wook, who plays the character Hongrang of the Min-sang group with a lost memory and secrets, delicately portrayed the complex emotional changes of the character and heightened the immersion of the drama with overwhelming action performance.

To express the character Hongrang, who has the cruel title "Hwisu (Tear and Life)," Lee Jae-wook meticulously calculated everything: the gaze toward his opponent, the rhythm of wielding the sword, and even the slightest body movements, showcasing detailed action performances that differ from traditional historical dramas.

In particular, after hearing the news about Jae-i (played by Cho Bo-ah) and In-hoe (played by Kim Min-ki), Lee Jae-wook rushed to the villa of Prince Han-pyeong (played by Kim Jae-wook), mixing sadness with determination in his gaze and adding tension with restrained movements. In the ensuing confrontation scene, he maximized immersion with intense action that left no room for hesitation as he overpowered his opponent.

Lee Jae-wook, who established himself as an actor who can perform most action scenes without a stunt double in previous works such as "I Jae, Soon to Die" and "Hwanhon," demonstrated his worth once again by performing most of the high-difficulty action scenes himself in "Dear Hongrang."

In this way, Lee Jae-wook proved once again that "Lee Jae-wook is soon to be a genre" by completing characters in his own style, regardless of the genre.

The Netflix series "Dear Hongrang," featuring Lee Jae-wook, is available for viewing on Netflix.
